Main purpose of job: The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) is the UK government department charged with promoting and financing international trade and development, and championing free trade. In Brazil, DBT operates within the British Embassy in Brasília, and Consulates in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte and Recife, with a team who work primarily through a number of sector specific export promotion campaigns. This position will be based at the British Consulate in Belo Horizonte and you will work directly with the Mining team that is based in Belo Horizonte, and remotely with the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) teams, that are based at the British Consulate in São Paulo. Your work will consist in strengthening the trade & investment relationship between the UK and Brazil in the mining sector. The UK has a long history of mining and boasts a strong, diverse range of companies working in the sector’s supply chain. Both sectors are very important in Brazil and your role will be to support UK investors and companies to do business in Brazil, with a special emphasis on innovation, technology and sustainability. In this role, you will also have a specific responsibility to support the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) team in Sao Paulo and the Consul of Belo Horizonte, working with the account management of companies in Minas Gerais that are interested in investing in the UK. You will be responsible to support the team to deliver on the DBT’s network objectives in line with the main pillars of: · Trade Support – work with UK investors and suppliers to develop opportunities within the mining sector and support their business in Brazil. · Promotion – Showcase UK technology and innovation for the mining sector at traditional trade shows and new promotional forums. · Market Access – Support Mining Sector Manager in the identification, analysis and creation of action plans for the key market barriers facing UK companies doing business in Brazil. · Foreign Direct Investment – support the team in São Paulo with the pipeline of Internationalisation projects in Minas Gerais. You will be responsible for supporting your line manager in managing an existing pipeline of commercial opportunities and researching and validating new prospects in the mining & FDI sectors. This is an ideal position for someone with the ability to work collaboratively with an international team. The job will require the successful candidate to take responsibility for delivering both quickly and to a high standard. Beyond DBT, you will also be responsible coordinate the office support for the British Consulate in Belo Horizonte through collaborating with Estates teams in Rio de Janeiro and Brasilia, and with the support of the Administrative Intern and support Mining Business Development Manager in managing team’s budget. |
Roles and responsibilities : Job distribution: Mining 80%, FDI (remotely) 10%, and Office Support 10%. Trade support: – Answer chargeable and non-chargeable general and diverse enquiries (personal, telephone, e-mail, work mobile phone) from Brazilian and UK stakeholders; – Analyse the demands of the mining sector and search for UK suppliers that offer matching solution; – Organise meetings and agendas for UK companies and internal stakeholders; – Organise visits and events for companies coming to Brazil to follow up on the research reports they have commissioned, including elaborating briefings and scheduling meetings with potential partners and key industry bodies as well as supporting product launches. Trade promotion: – Organisation of events (trade fairs and missions), official visits, seminars and workshops; – Assist with logistic and administrative arrangements for official events such as missions (inward and outward), lunches, dinners, trade fairs, seminars, webinars, showcases and dialogues. – Build programmes for stakeholders – Support official visits both in the UK and in Brazil – Identify and contact prospective UK suppliers for said opportunities. – Maintain an updated contact database and ensure impact and interactions are recorded on DBT’s database Opening Markets: – Develop a structure with the Business Development Manager to understand the main issues from the Mining stakeholders and create action plans to support the UK companies and investors to do business in Brazil; Foreign Direct Investment (FDI): – Be the focal point to the FDI team to support the development of a pipeline of leads and prospects in Minas Gerais; Office support: – Coordinate the office support for the British Consulate in Belo Horizonte through collaborating with Estates teams in Rio de Janeiro and Brasilia, and with the support of the Administrative Intern, – Coordinate budget management, monthly updating the Activity Plan and the budget holder, enabling better decisions; – Work collaboratively with other teams for official visits, events, elaborate briefings and/or general support |

· Professional experience in business, commercial or administrative functions · Ability to solve problems, prioritise, organise and manage multiple tasks · Capacity to have a high-standard customer-focused approach · Committed team player with ability to self-motivate, resilience and autonomy · Experience in event organisation (suppliers, travel and logistics) · Written and oral fluency and very good communication skills in both Portuguese and English · Very good command of Microsoft Office (outlook, excel, word) |
· A University degree in Business Administration, International Relations, Engineering, and related fields; · Experience in mining field; · Knowledge/understanding of Brazilian business landscape; · Academic/professional experience with mining will be highly appreciated. |

Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, eg some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.

This is a full time job (36 flexible hours a week) working hours to be agreed. Hybrid working is a possibility. The successful candidate will be expected to go into the Consulate in Belo Horizonte; however, we operate with a flexible working model, with the possibility of working from home when necessary.
Eligibility to work and live in Brazil is required.
Appointable candidates who were unsuccessful may be placed on a ‘reserve list’. If during the reserve period of 6 months the same or a largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second or subsequent candidate.
