Main purpose of job:
The Communications Intern will be working directly with the Communications Officer at the British Embassy in Caracas. The selected candidate will mainly contribute to content creation responsibilities, with special focus on video recording and editing; graphic design and writing for social media channels. The role includes also supporting content creation for other platforms and media, like website, newsletters and press releases, and supporting in the creation of news reports. The intern will offer logistical and administrative support to events and other internal activities, including activities related to Chevening scholarship. The position offers a unique opportunity to develop a wide range of skills and practical exposure to different communications abilities.
Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?
- Create, edit, design, schedule and publish social media content in video, image and text formats for the Embassy’s accounts. This includes the coverage of internal and external events, both in-person and virtually activities. (40%)
- Support other communications responsibilities like press release writing and distribution, media tours’ logistics, media training for Embassy staff, creation of content for internal channels (blogs and newsletters) and news reports. (30%)
- Manage interactions on the Embassy’s social media accounts. (10%)
- Keep track of social media analytics in a biweekly report. (10%)
- Provide logistical support for the whole Embassy staff. (10%)

- We welcome applications from early-career professionals with experience in communications, journalism, marketing, graphic design or other careers with a communications component. Equally, early-career professionals from International Studies, Liberal Studies or similar backgrounds. We also welcome students in their final year of any of the mentioned majors who have finished all mandatory courses and have a thesis or graduation pending.
- Excellent writing skills (both in English and in Spanish).
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Intermediate to advanced image and video editing skills (Canva, Cap Cut, Illustrator and/or Photoshop).
- Experience with social media management and content creation for digital platforms.
- Proficiency in MS Office software tools, particularly Excel and Word.
- The candidate should be a team player, have strong organisational skills, and excellent attention to detail.

- Must be legally authorized to work in Venezuela.

Candidates must be eligible to work and live in Venezuela.
Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, e.g. some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.
Appointable candidates who were unsuccessful may be placed on a ‘reserve list. If during the reserve period of 6 months the same or largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second of subsequent candidate.

This role is in-person and full-time at 35.25 hours per week and may require occasional out of hours work. The employee will be eligible for TOIL in such instances.
