The British Embassy in Hungary is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. In order to support upcoming media campaigns and major events, such as the King’s Birthday Party, we are currently seeking a paid intern to work with the Embassy’s communications team and deliver specified additional work over the next few months.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Communications: researching and producing creative social media content, administrative support, analysing social media metrics and preparing reports, media monitoring
  • Event management support: setting up small in-house events and managing aspects of the events and budgets accordingly
  • Supporting soft power projects across the Embassy
  • Supporting additional corporate and administrative tasks across the Embassy
  • Establishing and maintaining good relationship within the Embassy and with external stakeholders, customers and suppliers
  • Writing meeting records and other summaries
  • Carrying out Learning & Development activities around the successful candidate’s area of policy interest, agreed with the Intern’s Mentor at the beginning of the internship

  • Excellent command of written and spoken English and Hungarian (minimum C1 level for CEFR framework*)
  • Interest in a career in international relations or policy
  • Digital content production and social media management skills
  • Good organisational skills and project management
  • Ability to learn quickly
  • Enthusiasm and flexibility
  • Solid command of Microsoft Office

  • Current university student or recent graduate (within two years)
  • Previous experience of working in teams to deliver projects
  • Exposure to and/or participation in formal events, receptions or presentations
  • Ability to work across multiple teams

This is a full-time Intern position, of 5 days per week (35 hours net), with a 3 months fixed term contract.

The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a background check and security clearance. You must have pre-existing work authorisation for Hungary in order to apply.

Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy are subject to terms and conditions of service according to Hungarian employment law.

Visa/work permit requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Hungary and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.

Please note that it is your responsibility to ensure you meet the legal requirements to live and work in this country.

This job will allow for some remote working as per the Embassy’s Flexible Working guidance. Working hours are flexible and staff are entitled to time-off in lieu for extra hours worked.
