Main purpose of job:
The British Embassy in San Jose, Costa Rica is part of a global network representing British political, economic, climate and consular interests overseas.
The intern will support the Communications team in strengthening the UK’s visibility in country with specific local audiences, including through the creation and implementation of communications initiatives for in-person events; creating content for our social media channels; and liaising with stakeholders. This is a challenging and engaging role, which will allow the successful candidate to gain valuable experience working for a diplomatic mission in Costa Rica, which also oversees Nicaragua.

Applicants must have the legal status to live and work in Costa Rica at time of application.
Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, e.g. some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.
Appointable candidates who were unsuccessful may be placed on a ‘reserve list. If during the reserve period of 6 months the same or largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second of subsequent candidate.
Working patterns:
If the job is suitable for flexible working patterns, please provide details: Line managers will set the working pattern in agreement with the intern. The maximum hours worked per week are 24 hours for a period of 3 months, with the possibility of an additional 3 months where appropriate, for a maximum of 9 months altogether. The Embassy will provide the Intern with a subsidy of $300 per month.

This is an internship and, as such, it will be designed around the individual’s desire to learn and develop. It will offer the right candidate the opportunity to understand how a diplomatic mission operates and see the type of work we do.
