Main purpose of job:

Support the Senior Regional Communications Officer in raising the profile of the UK’s activity in Mozambique through delivery of targeted communications activities, including social media output, programme and project communications, press releases, soft power activities and more.

Working with colleagues across the mission, you will contribute for the development and delivery of strategies and campaigns, support teams from across the British High Commission in promoting impact of project delivery, with particular attention to social media (especially Facebook) but also traditional media and soft power events.

Roles and responsibilities:

This is a fast-paced role working at the centre of the busy and fast-growing British High Commission in Mozambique.  You will be responsible for supporting the delivery of the UK in Mozambique’s communications output that contributes to the delivery of UK objectives and projects a positive profile of the UK’s work in Mozambique. In particular you will:

  • Build and maintain a strong relationship with local media, influencers and other key stakeholders.
  • Plan and Manage social media platforms (Twitter and Facebook) to support delivery of communications strategy
  • Support on the planning, management, delivery and evaluation of key soft power events throughout the year
  • Work with the Africa Campaigns Hub to deliver priority UK communications campaigns
  • Support the update of Communications products such as Core Script, Top Lines, Booklet and other internal and external documents
  • Undertake media monitoring and analysis of political developments and stories of interest to the UK
  • Draft and/or edit press releases, interview scripts and other materials for short term campaigns
  • Contribute to brainstorming sessions within the communications department or the entire organization
  • Support evaluation reports and identify actionable insights from communications activities and campaigns. Use data-driven analysis and evaluation to understand the impact of digital campaign and communications work and apply that learning to future activities
  • Assist with general administration of the communications department and assets; manage branding stock, manage communications subscriptions, preparing presentations, and gathering materials for conferences and/or campaign events
  • Support teams at the British High Commission at events across the country with communications and media engagement and any other duties as required

Language requirements: 

Language: Portuguese and English

Level of language required: Proficient

  • Basic knowledge of Video and Photo editing are a not required but are a plus

Learning and development opportunities:

The British High Commission places a lot of value on supporting the development of its staff, and you will be encouraged to participate in L&D training and get involved in corporate activities. As well as successful completion of relevant online learning for the role, the successful candidate will be required to complete an communications introductory training course in the first six months of the job. There are also opportunities to job shadow at other British missions in the region.

Working patterns:

Some working from home or flexible hours would be possible. The successful candidate will be required to travel in accordance with the demands of the job.
