The British Embassy in Dublin is part of a world-wide network, representing UK political, economic and consular interests overseas, and is now recruiting for a Communications Officer.
This position forms part of a dynamic Communications team, who will ensure that our communications is current, projects a positive image of the UK and represents all of the Embassy teams and the depth of our relationship with Ireland.
The Job Holder will proactively work on a variety of communication tasks, from monitoring media in Ireland, to helping plan communications around events as well as assist with campaigns and evaluation. They will work across the Embassy including with our devolved government teams and with UK Government Departments on issues ranging from prosperity to culture and high-level visits/events.
You will need to use insight to plan communications activity that is relevant to our audience as well as effectively putting our messages out there in an interesting and engaging way, suggesting new, innovative ideas that could help us cut through the very busy media landscape. In addition, full evaluation of our pro-active output will be key as this will help measure success of campaigns as well as make sure we are always improving our communications.
You will monitor media for items of interest to the UK and prepare daily and weekly summaries for embassy colleagues as well as colleagues in the FCDO and wider government machine.
Finally, as part of the role, you will need to co-ordinate our Embassy crisis preparations. Working across teams to ensure we are ready to respond should an incident arise.
The job holder will need to be prepared to work flexibly, with occasional out of hours duties (time off in lieu will be given) and to occasionally travel regionally and overseas.
All staff are required to contribute to the wider corporate activities of the Embassy and to support high level visits as required.

The successful candidate will be subject to a six-month probationary period and will be employed on a fixed-term contract basis for 24 months with the possibility of renewal. The appointment is subject to satisfactory reference and security checks.
All L&D required on FCDO/UK government standards and systems will be provided. The Embassy is committed to a strong Learning and Development culture and provides opportunities for staff to invest in their personal and professional development. The Comms digital network in particular has a strong L&D offering with frequent opportunities to upskill.
Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Ireland are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Irish employment law.
