Main purpose of job:
The Corporate Services Team provides day-to-day administrative and operational support for the British Embassies in Santo Domingo and Port au Prince, covering areas such as Finance, IT, Transport, Estates, HR, Health & Safety, and general administration. The Corporate Services Intern supports this team by assisting with daily tasks and small projects, helping ensure smooth embassy operations and high-quality service for diplomats, staff, and their families.
This role forms part of the Embassy’s Internship Programme and offers an opportunity to gain hands on experience of working in an international organisation. The intern will receive on the job guidance, access to relevant FCDO training and exposure to a wide range of corporate functions, helping them develop transferable administrative, organisational and professional skills in a supportive and inclusive environment.

Roles and responsibilities:
The Corporate Services Intern will work across the Corporate Services Team, supporting the effective delivery of administrative, operational and customer focused services that enable the Embassy to function smoothly.
1. General Corporate Services Administration (25%)
Provide general support across Corporate Services, helping with office services, managing diplomatic bags and courier shipments, supporting visitors and arrivals, maintaining general records and files, and assisting with internal events and learning activities.
2. Finance & Transport Administrative Support (25%)
Assist with routine finance and procurement administration, including filing, invoice tracking, supplier follow ups and basic data checks. You will also support transport administration, helping to maintain schedules, fuel records and internal communications related to transport services.
3. IT Support & Operational Systems (25%)
Support the Embassy’s IT operations by helping maintain IT inventories, assisting with basic troubleshooting, setting up equipment for meetings and events, and supporting IT onboarding and user guidance under the direction of the IT Support Officer.
4. Estates & Health and Safety Support (25%)
Provide assistance with Estates and Health & Safety administration, property and asset management, supplier liaison, procurement and maintenance activities, and the upkeep of Health & Safety records and documentation and other tasks as required.
This internship offers hands‑on experience across Corporate Services in a diplomatic environment, developing practical administrative, technical and organisational skills while working as part of a supportive and collaborative team.

The internship offers a structured and supportive Learning & Development (L&D) programme designed to help interns build practical workplace skills and gain a clear understanding of how a British Embassy operates.

- Structured induction and onboarding including introductions to the work of the Embassy, and other teams, as well as briefings on ways of working, security, HR, welfare, and IT systems.
- Access to Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) learning programmes, including the Foundation Programme, which provides an overview of diplomacy, international development, global issues, security, economics, and how the UK works internationally. Learning time is built into the working week.
- Hands on workplace learning through day to day involvement in Corporate Services activities, including administration, finance, IT, logistics, transport, estates, and operational support.
- Monthly skills development sessions covering practical topics such as event management and logistics, project management basics, communications, diplomatic drafting, and finance essentials.
- Intern swap opportunity, allowing interns to spend a short period working in a different section of the Embassy to broaden their understanding and experience.

Essential on arrival:
- Fluent Spanish and English, spoken and written.
- Recently graduated from a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Business Administration, International Business, Engineering, or similar
- Confidence using IT systems, including Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams).
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a strong customer focus.
- Strong organisation and time‑management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with colleagues, suppliers, and service providers.
