Main purpose of job:
The British Embassy in Caracas is recruiting a bilingual (Spanish and English) Intern to assist within the Corporate Services Section. The section deals with all administrative matters that enables the Embassy to function efficiently including finance, buildings maintenance, transport, protocol, contracts and HR issues.
We are looking for someone who is keen to gain job experience whilst also contributing to the Embassy’s objectives.
The successful candidate will have good administrative skills to ensure compliance with processes.
Roles and responsibilities:
Administrative Duties 90% – Assist staff with various duties including but not limited to:
- Monitoring and checking utility expenditure in properties.
- Completing tasks as requested by the CS Manager.
- Completing forms required for visitors to the Embassy.
- Liaising with contractors as required.
- Assisting the Estate Officer with supervision of contractors.
- Assisting with health and safety requirements to ensure procedures are in place.
- Monitoring and ordering replacement stationary.
- Updating staff and phone lists as necessary.
Corporate (10%)
- Play an active role in supporting the Embassy’s corporate activities and responsibilities.
- Partly assisting as required for absent staff in other roles eg IT, Personal Assistant etc.

Candidates must be eligible to work and live in Venezuela.
Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, e.g. some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.
Appointable candidates who were unsuccessful may be placed on a ‘reserve list. If during the reserve period of 6 months the same or largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second of subsequent candidate.
The successful candidate will be required to carry out basic training on arrival in order to access the relevant FCDO systems.
