Main purpose of job:
Ensure Health and Safety requirements are met throughout Embassy, Ambassador’s Residence and rented properties. Act as liaison with Residence Manager to ensure estates and maintenance works at the Ambassador’s Residence are up-to-date and carried out in accordance with FCDO processes and guidelines. Provide general support for the Estates and Maintenance team, and ad hoc support for the wider Corporate Services as required.
The jobholder will be a member of a flexible, customer-service focused team. While his/her priority will be health and safety and providing general support to the Estates and Maintenance Team, the jobholder may be required on occasion to provide support for the wider Corporate Service Team which could include protocol, finance, HR and administrative tasks. The jobholder will need to demonstrate flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
Roles and responsibilities:
- Draft H&S documentation for all projects and activities such as Method Statements, Permits To Work and Risk Assessments, working closely with local contractors and internal health and safety specialists
- Support the Estates Manager in ensuring full H&S compliance by ensuring that correct H&S procedures are followed for all estates and maintenance work and that all relevant H&S documentation is up-to-date and filed correctly
- Lead on regular H&S inspections for the Embassy, HMA Residence and rented properties
- Co-ordinate visits and H&S inspections by internal H&S specialists, such as Regional Technical Lead
- Working with the Residence Manager, co-ordinate all estates works at the Ambassador’s Residence and ensure regular maintenance checks and works at the Residence are carried out in accordance with the agreed schedule
- Liaise with and supervise external contractors at Residence and/or other rented properties as needed, ensuring that all maintenance projects are completed to a high standard, in accordance with the works request
- Act as main point of contact between the Residence and the Estates team, ensuring good communication on estates and maintenance issues between the Ambassador and family, Residence Team and the Estates Team
- Ad hoc support and tasks in support of the wider Corporate Services team, as required

The successful candidate must be Panamanian, or have a valid and current Work Permit through Ministry of Labour, and be able to provide it when requested by Embassy. The British Embassy – Panama City does not sponsor work permits.
Please note that all applicants must be fluent in both English and Spanish.
Office hours in the embassy are 8am-5pm Monday to Thursday and 8am-1pm on Fridays, though there is scope for flexible working arrangements, which can be agreed with the Line Manager.
Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, eg some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.
Appointable candidates who were unsuccessful may be placed on a ‘reserve list’. If during the reserve period of 6-12 months the same or a largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second or subsequent candidate.
