Outreach
Main purpose of job:
The successful candidate will be part of the British Embassy’s regional engagement team – “North China Outreach” – and will focus on developing and supporting the UK’s bilateral relationships with provinces of North China. The Outreach Team was created over ten years ago and is dedicated to promoting closer government-to-government, business-to-business and people-to-people links with China’s provinces and second / third-tier cities – in line with the Embassy’s overall business plan and priorities.
The jobholder will be involved in a wide range of activities to expand and deepen the Embassy’s engagement in and understanding of North China. The jobholder will need to undertake regional travel on a fairly regular basis to develop and maintain relationships with local government departments, businesses, academia, and other organisations and contacts relevant to UK policy interests; and in order to support and deliver visits by Embassy teams. The overall aim of these visits is to build UK understanding of provincial China, through regional insights reporting, and to promote UK objectives through private and public diplomacy.
The successful candidate will need to have plenty of initiative, strong interpersonal and team working skills, as well as good verbal and written communication, and a “can-do attitude”. In return, the jobholder can expect travel opportunities, the chance to build a range of skills and experience, and to gain an overview of the breadth of the UK government’s work in China.
