Main purpose of job:
Act as the Administrative Officer and Driver for the Defence Section, working to the Defence Executive Officer. Maintain the Section administrative and operating records according to UK Government MOD and FCDO rules.
Roles and responsibilities
These will include, but not be limited to:
- Driving the Section vehicle on official business, maintaining all records according to rules ensuring the car is fit for purpose.
- Engaging with contacts to co-ordinate meetings and activities.
- Maintaining records of expenditure, managing and advising on multiple budgets.
- Maintaining files on MS Teams.
- Maintaining records according to regulations.
- Writing emails and letters to both Uruguay and UK contacts.
- Booking travel.
- Event coordination and support.
- Conducting basic research and summarising press articles.
- Being a key part of the broader British Embassy Team.
Resources managed:
- Maintenance of accounts records in accordance with their rules and guidance.
- Holder of a Government Procurement Card (GPC) in order to commit expenditure.

Essential on arrival:
- Qualified to use MS Office, especially Teams, Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
- Full Uruguayan driving licence, with at least 5 years driving experience.
- Confident in city and national highway driving.

Applicants must have the legal status to live and work in Uruguay in their own right at the time of application.
Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, e.g. some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.
Appointable candidates who were unsuccessful may be placed on a ‘reserve list. If during the reserve period of 6-12 months the same or largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second of subsequent candidate.
Working patterns:
The Majority of the work is conducted during the core working day (Mon-Thu 0900-1730, Fri 0900-1400), however there will be a requirement to support work outside these times, either in the evening or during the weekend.
