About the Role
Based at the British Embassy in Lisbon, you will play a pivotal role in managing strategic, high-value contracts that underpin the UK’s digital transformation agenda. As part of a team of nine specialists, you will work closely with colleagues in the UK and across the FCDO to ensure that our commercial relationships deliver exceptional outcomes in cost, quality, and performance.
This is a hands-on leadership position where you will:
- Lead contract management for a portfolio of critical DDaT contracts, ensuring compliance with Government Commercial Standards and Cabinet Office best practices.
- Drive supplier performance through robust KPIs, proactive relationship management, and innovative solutions.
- Negotiate complex contract variations and renewals, safeguarding value for money and operational excellence.
- Act as a trusted commercial adviser to senior stakeholders, influencing strategic decisions and championing best practice.

- Line manage up to two HEO Contract Managers.
- Contribute to succession planning and skills development within the Commercial Directorate.
- Represent the DDaT Commercial function in cross-government forums.

Our ideal candidate shows:
- Proficiency in English (Oral and written), minimum C1 level under the CEFR or equivalent;
- Minimum 5 years relevant experience of DDaT sector sourcing or contract management;
- Commercial Technical Skills: previous experience in leading on complex commercial situations and leading teams to deliver great commercial outcomes. Candidates should have strong experience in commercial contract management;
- Experience in Digital, Data and Technology sector, either as a buyer or supplier;
- University Degree or equivalent experience in Procurement, Supply Chain, Business, Information Technology, Economics, Finance or similar;
- Leadership and Management Skills: demonstrable line management experience;
- Working Internationally: previous experience in working in a procurement capacity which is regional/international and beyond domestic market;
- Proven experience in influencing internal and external stakeholders with strong customer service skills and experience in guiding and supporting non- commercial staff;
- Analytical Skills: Ability to interpret complex data and commercial models to inform decision-making.

This is a permanent, full-time contract (35 hours net per week) subject to a 180 days probation period.
This role is based in Lisbon, with occasional travel required to London, Scotland, and Vilnius. We are flexible on travel requirements and open to discussing individual circumstances.
The British Embassy in Lisbon aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role of €60,021.19 gross annual salary paid in fourteen instalments; plus a monthly meal allowance of €193.60. This salary is payable if the successful candidate is subject to individual income tax (IRS) in Portugal on the employment income in question. If the successful candidate is not subject to individual income tax (IRS) on their employment income in Portugal, and/or is not taxable elsewhere on such income, he / she will receive the above salary minus a reference amount approximate to the level of Portuguese tax that would be applicable if the income were subject to tax locally. Further information on this will be given to candidates during the recruitment process.
All staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Portugal are subject to local Portuguese employment law as well as internal regulations in force at any given time.
The successful candidate will be subject to a professional background and security clearance and must have pre-existing work authorisation for Portugal in order to apply.

The Embassy will not consider applications from existing staff who have not successfully completed their probation period or, in the case of staff on temporary contract who have not yet completed two thirds of their contract.
