Main purpose of job
Provide safe, timely, and courteous driving services for the British High Commission, ensuring the effective operation and care of official vehicles in line with internal procedures.
Provide administrative and operational support to Corporate Services, working closely with the Transport Manager and Estates Manager to support transport coordination, estates administration, record keeping, and compliance activities.
As a team player with excellent customer service skills, you will transport colleagues and official visitors safely and punctually. You will maintain vehicles in good condition and have strong knowledge of roads, government buildings, and key locations across Barbados. Drawing on strong organisational skills, you will support the smooth running of transport and estates functions through accurate administration, coordination, and communication, alongside core driving duties.
Roles and responsibilities
Driver – 65%
- Provide timely, safe, professional and lawful driving service to members of the High Commission and any visiting VIPs and/or official colleagues.
- Maintain awareness of potential security threats while driving or at destination and ensuring a defensive response to any threats to the vehicle or passengers, including some advance security checks ahead of visits.
- Ensure vehicles are clean, serviceable, and compliant with safety and insurance requirements.
- Carry out daily vehicle checks and report faults or servicing requirements to the Transport Manager.
- Ensure clear communication with your passengers and supervising team when on official duty.
- Maintain and submit accurate journey logs.
- Ensure you hold a valid driving licence, always, to comply with insurance coverage requirements.
- Deliver letters and documents and undertake any other driving tasks as required to support the High Commission’s operations.
Administrative Support – 30%
- Provide administrative support to the Transport Manager, including maintaining vehicle records, servicing schedules, fuel logs, and transport-related documentation.
- Support the Estates Manager with administrative tasks such as logging maintenance requests, tracking contractor visits, maintaining records, and updating estates documentation.
- Assist with coordination of contractors and service providers, including access arrangements and visitor logging, in line with security procedures.
- Maintain accurate records, spreadsheets, and basic reports using standard office IT systems (e.g. Outlook, Excel, Teams).
- Support the wider Corporate Services team with administrative tasks as required to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.
- Deliver administrative tasks that support the role’s objective, including preparing the domestic equipment float and coordinating initial food supplies for new arrivals as assigned by the Corporate Services management team.
Security Support & Crisis Response – 5%
- On-site supervision and logging of visitors and contractors.
- Support security procedures in collaboration with Post Security colleagues.
- Undertaking the necessary crisis training to effectively deliver your assigned role in crisis readiness, as part of a whole-of-mission approach to crisis preparedness.
Some duties occur routinely and others are cyclical or on an ad-hoc basis only. Workload management should be routinely discussed and agreed with the head of your team.

- Full and valid driver’s licence with a clean driving record.
- Minimum of 3 years’ professional driving experience.
- Prior experience in administrative role(s).
- Ability to drive a manual (stick shift) vehicle.
- Experience providing administrative or operational support in an office or service environment.
- Confidence using basic office IT systems (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams).
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Good team worker.
- Legal status to live and work in Barbados in your own right, from time of Application.

Applicants must have the legal status to live and work in Barbados.
Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, e.g. some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.
Appointable candidates who were unsuccessful may be placed on a ‘reserve list. If during the reserve period of 12 months the same or largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second of subsequent candidate.

Additional Information
- Probation Period: 6 months.

Working Hours
The role requires flexibility within a 42.5-hour work week (including breaks). This may include evening and occasional weekend work and vary regularly from standard office hours. Overtime or time off in lieu will be granted for hours worked beyond 42.5.
