The British Embassy in Chisinau is part of a worldwide network, representing British political, defence, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking to recruit a Driver/ Corporate Services Assistant to be responsible for safe, reliable, and professional transportation of embassy personnel, official visitors, and material. The role supports the diplomatic mission by ensuring smooth and secure mobility.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Driving Duties (approx. 70%):
- Provide safe, punctual, and professional transportation for the Ambassador (HMA), Embassy staff, official visitors, and delegates for routine, official, and representational duties.
- Conduct out of hours and weekend driving on a rotational basis, including occasional overnight or extended trips.
- Support airport runs, meet and greet duties, luggage handling, and escorting visitors as required.
- Maintain all assigned official vehicles in clean, roadworthy, and presentable condition, ensuring timely servicing, authorised repairs, and routine maintenance.
- Carry out daily pre trip checks and ensure full compliance with security, legal, and traffic regulations.
- Keep accurate logbooks, journey record sheets, maintenance logs, and fuel documentation in line with FCDO policies.
- Monitor vehicle performance and report mechanical or safety issues immediately.
- Manage vehicle-related inventories (spare parts, tools, consumables) and raise requirements for replenishment.
- Support the registration and de registration of official and private UK based staff (UKBS) vehicles and ensure compulsory insurance is obtained.
- Handle diplomatic bags (DipBags) in accordance with Embassy procedures.
Corporate Services Assistance (approx. 30%):
- Provide administrative and logistical support to the Corporate Services Team, including filing, photocopying, scanning, document dispatch, and mail/messenger duties inside and outside the Embassy.
- Assist with receiving and distributing mail, letters, courier packages, and official correspondence.
- Support procurement-related tasks, including obtaining quotes, purchasing goods/services under £3k, and accounting for GPC spend in line with delegated authority.
- Assist with maintaining inventories and stock control for office supplies, residences, vehicles, and warehouse items.
- Support Finance with non financial tasks such as delivering documents, collecting receipts, and liaising with suppliers or banks.
- Assist in the setup of meetings, hospitality arrangements, and internal events.
- Provide routine clerical support to HR, Estates, IT, and Administrative functions within the S1 grade scope.
- Act as back up for the Receptionist/Management Assistant when required (basic reception duties, answering calls, receiving visitors).
Estates / Handyman Back Up (Limited Scope):
To be used only when the Handyman is unavailable or during urgent operational needs.
- Perform very basic estates support tasks such as changing light bulbs, moving light furniture, cleaning snow, assisting with minor checks, and accompanying contractors on site.
- Out-of-hour emergency technical support
- Report maintenance issues promptly and clearly to the Estates Officer; ensure no work is undertaken beyond skill level, safety limits, or permitted S1 responsibilities.

- Excellent level of Romanian (minimum of C1 level for CEFR framework*);
- Independent user in English and Russian (minimum of B1 for CEFR framework*);
- A minimum of 3 years driving professional experience;
- Good customer service, communication and time management skills;
- Ability to multitasking and work under pressure;
- A good understanding of the role; must be flexible with working hours and be a good team worker;
- Basic IT skills (Microsoft Office package).

This is a full-time permanent contract. The Embassy’s pay and benefits package is in compliance with local labour law. The gross monthly salary for this position is MDL 21,417. The annual leave entitlement is 24 working days per calendar year and the Embassy also enjoys 14 Moldovan/UK public holidays per year.
The successful candidate will be subject to a reference check, security clearance and satisfactory completion of a probationary period of three months.
Foreign Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) have a strong Learning and Development (L&D) culture supporting a 70:20:10 learning posture (70% on-the-job informal learning, 20% informal learning from others, 10% formal learning).
The successful Job Holder will receive an induction plan with a suite of mandatory e-learning courses and have access to job-related training, enabling the successful Job Holder to become comfortable and effective in the role as quickly as possible.
