Who are we?
The British Embassy in Athens is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. The Embassy has a vacancy for a Driver to undertake a dynamic and varied role. The successful candidate will work as part of the Corporate Services and Security Team driver pool providing support to diplomats and Embassy staff as well as taking on a responsibility to ensure that the Embassy official vehicle fleet remains well maintained and serviced.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Driving Embassy staff and visitors on official journeys, this can include overnight visits out of base;
- Planning alternative route and preparing for all eventualities for official journeys;
- Messenger trips – including delivery of official communications the Greek MFA and engagement with suppliers (Procurement of goods and services, payment of invoices);
- Vehicle maintenance of Embassy Official Vehicles:
- daily check of tyre pressures, hydraulic fluid, oil, radiator, and battery level;
- keeping the vehicle clean and serviceable;
- reporting any defects;
- updating vehicle records as required (fuel reports, log sheets etc).
- Maintaining vehicle journey logs and updating computer vehicle files as requested;
- Ensuring Embassy vehicles and journeys comply with the law:
- respect speed limits
- all occupants wear seatbelts.
- Complying with Embassy Security regulations and standard operating procedures;
- Other duties commensurate with the grade.

Our ideal candidate shows:
- Full professional proficiency in English and Greek (written and spoken, minimum of C1 level for CEFR framework*)
- Clean driver’s license (B2 category or higher) in European Union
- Professional driving experience
- Computer literate (i.e. MS Word and Excel, Teams and Outlook)
- Excellent interpersonal skills- customer oriented
- Able to work effectively, both individually and in collaboration with teams
- Able to treat others with respect and courtesy regardless of work pressures, being able to deliver the work assigned to a high standard
- Flexibility to meet the demands of a fast moving varied work schedule.

This is a full-time, permanent contract for 40 hours per week. The working pattern is 8hour-long shifts during weekdays. Some additional overtime work during weekdays and weekends will be required and will be compensated in accordance with Greek labour law provisions.
The British Embassy offers a competitive remuneration package, 24 days annual leave entitlement (given pro-rata to staff on fixed-term contracts and/or staff working part-time), a training package and flexible working opportunities. Monthly salary for this position is EUR € 1,575.52 gross. An individual personal development plan will be agreed with the successful candidate.
The successful candidate will be welcomed into the wider team in the British Embassy in Athens and will be encouraged to play a part in the corporate life of the Embassy.
The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a background, security and medical clearance, as well as the successful completion of a 6-month probation period.
Anyone with right of residence and employment in Greece may apply, including all EU / EEA citizens and the family members of EU / EEA nationals exercising a treaty right in Greece.
Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy is subject to terms and conditions service according to Greek employment law. The British Embassy does not sponsor work permits.
Visa/work permit requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Greece and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.

Learning and development opportunities: Mandatory training (including but not limited to Armoured Vehicle driving) will be provided by the Embassy. Successful candidate will also entitled to 5 days of Personal Development per annum for development activities.
