Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)

Main purpose of job:

The Position is a replacement for a retiring driver. The successful candidate will join a dynamic and collegiate team of 4 drivers who support the overarching delivery of the wider mission by providing a value-for-money service. Core duties include driving and providing administrative and logistic assistance to the wider mission, its staff members and visiting dignitaries and official guests. This includes timely arrivals at official events, meetings and appointments, as well as safe transportation of official documents to the Mozambican Ministries.

The drivers comply with both UK and local H&S regulations by maintaining vigilant whilst driving and adhering to safety protocols to ensure the safety of themselves, their respective passengers and the official vehicle.

Roles and responsibilities:

General driving duties

Undertake all driving responsibilities issued by the Transport Manager, including delivery and collection of passengers, any ad-hoc driving requirements.
Contribute to a cooperative workplace by assisting colleagues including other teams when needed and within competencies and capacities.
Plan the most efficient routes to ensure timely and safe arrival at the destination
Maintain clear and effective communication with the team, supervisor, staff regarding schedules, delays and any issues encountered

Care of vehicles

Always keep the interior and exterior of vehicles clean according to the mission policy and manufactures‘ manual.
Conduct daily check of tyre pressure, hydraulic fluid, oil, battery level and fuel.
Identify any defects as early as possible and keep any potential risk to a minimum level.
Ensure vehicle maintenance is systematically done and recorded.
Always apply defensive driving principles to mitigate road related risks.
Report any vehicle faults to the Transport Manager as soon as detected and perform safety checks of the vehicle

Administrative duties

Prepare all paperwork and invoices of the month and submit for approval to Transport Manager within set deadlines.
Ensure that timesheets are maintained and submitted on time as well as other administrative processes.
Undertake any ad-hoc duties to help meet the Mission objectives.
Correctly completing the vehicle journey record sheets during/after a journey and making sure the official passenger signs for the specific journey
Participate in logistical preparations of high-level visits, including driving schedules etc.
Expected to dress in appropriate fashion and to maintain a neat and tidy appearance at all times when on duty (Uniform will be provided by the mission)

Essential qualifications, skills and experience

Valid professional driver’s licence
High school Diploma
Minimum 5 years driving experience
Broad knowledge of travel routes, road conditions throughout Maputo
Good communication skills and dealing with people at all time
Ability to work under pressure.
Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional early mornings and late evening
Excellent time management skills
Good command of Portuguese and readiness to improve English skills
Intermediate communication skills in English
Well-developed sense of safety, presentable appearance, service and customer focus approach

Desirable qualifications, skills and experience

Previous experience working in a foreign diplomatic mission or an international organisation

The jobholder will have access to tailored training to improve their inherent skills for driving and mandatory learning to enhance the performance and adherence to internal procedures and compliance to internal policies.

Short listed candidates will be expected to pass a competency-based driving test set by the BHC Mission.

This is a Country Based Staff (CBS) role. The job holder must hold a legal document that allows them to live and work in Mozambique and also hold a valid passport, as there will be occasional travel to South Africa in support to the Mission’s operational needs.
