Community Liaison

The British Embassy in Cairo is looking to recruit a Community Liaison Officer (CLO), job grade Executive Officer (EO) to cover maternity leave for one (1) year.

This is an excellent opportunity to work closely with the Embassy Management for the well-being of staff at Post, with the primary function as advocate for, and provision of, support to UK-based staff and families on family and community issues, principally in the areas of information gathering, welfare, pastoral care and communication.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Welfare at Post: welcoming all staff on posting/temporary duty/flexible deployment and their accompanying families to ensure as smooth an integration as possible into the life of the Post community; central role in inducting new staff/families, including oversight of accommodation needs and management of the domestic float; following up to check that the settling in process is working; being a source of referral and support where questions, problems and difficulties arise; providing short Post community induction. Arranging events for staff and families and organising Vaccinations.
  • Information gathering for UK-Based officers and their spouses/partners and families. To include information primarily on spouse/partner employment at Post; children’s education (through completion of separate HR School and Nursery Information Sheets of authorised schools at Post); a comprehensive information pack on childcare at post, feedback on adult education; Special Educational Needs (SEN); career and training opportunities; single officer and foreign born spouse/partner issues; recreational facilities; social matters; and completion of DSFA Spouse and Partner Annual Employment Report. Coordinating with Overseas Medical Team and UK Health Insurance Provider over the identification and maintenance of suitable healthcare providers for UK Based Staff and their families in Egypt, compiling regular cost of living and other returns and maintenance of local Medical Emergency Response Plan. In addition, responsibility for the Post Welcome Pack and Post Report.
  • Advocate for UK-based staff and families in addressing issues of importance with Post Management, including as their representative on Post Platform Boards, evacuation/contingency planning and housing committees, and as the chief link between Post and DSFA in London. The CLO should promote a ‘one team’ approach.
  • Communicating effectively on community and social matters across Post to all staff and receive notification of staff arrivals/departures. The CLO should participate in a number of Post committees. The CLO should advertise details of DSFA career support services and courses to eligible UK-Based spouses/partners at Post. CLO is expected to maintain communication channels for staff and spouses/partners across Post in accordance with the FCDO social media policy.
  • Crisis/Emergency Planning: the CLO must be aware of, and be involved in, any Post contingency and evacuation plans. All CLOs should complete the Crisis Preparedness Management eLearning.

The above list is not exhaustive and the jobholder will be required to be flexible and take on other ad hoc tasks as required. The job description may be reviewed to meet changes in business needs.

Eligibility:

Applicants must have the legal right to live and work in Egypt.

Remuneration:

 The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including a non-negotiable gross salary of USD 1,570 per month, subject to insurance and tax as per the usual regulations, based on a 36 hours per week. However, employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary may have their salaries reduced by the equivalent local income tax amount. 

We offer a competitive package including medical benefits, performance related bonus, recreational facilities, opportunities for job related training and development, etc. There are no other allowances payable as part of this package. No accommodation nor relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.

This role is for a full-time employment on a fixed term contract basis for one (1) year to cover maternity leave, subject to three (3) months’ probationary period.

The British Embassy is committed to helping staff develop in their careers through formal and informal training and coaching. We also provide regular in-house learning opportunities and are committed to supporting further academic opportunities.

The jobholder may have the opportunity to undertake the CLO course held in London or online and a range of other opportunities.

Process: 

The recruitment process, including security clearance, is expected to take around 2-3 months. The security clearance process includes checks available in country and with UK, dependant on the security level required for the role and the candidates profile and UK footprint. You may experience some delay in the progress of this recruitment campaign, and we are working hard to minimise any disruption.

Appointable candidates who were unsuccessful at interview may be placed on a ‘reserve list’. If during the reserve period of six (6) months the same or a largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second or subsequent candidate.
