The British Embassy in Cairo is looking to recruit a Residence Manager, job grade Executive Officer (EO).
The British Ambassador’s Residence is a historical building in Cairo and a key venue for hospitality to support the work of the British Embassy, and the official residence of His Majesty’s Ambassador and his spouse. Supported by the wider Corporate Services team, and working to the Deputy Head of Corporate Services, the successful candidate will be expected to ensure that this key asset for His Majesty’s Government is maintained to the highest possible standards of cleanliness and organisation, ensuring that FCDO’s rules on health and safety, financial and stock management are followed. Activities hosted at the Residence range from small meetings, through to large evening receptions. The Residence also accommodates senior official visitors from the United Kingdom and the region, and private guests of the Ambassador’s family.
The Residence Manager will be responsible for ensuring that events are planned for appropriately and the resources required to deliver are in place, or procured in accordance with UK Government procurement best practice, regularly seeing and achieving value for money while ensuring the best possible service.
The successful candidate will also have a leadership role within the Residence, ensuring staff are managed to the high standards expected at the British Embassy, that all staff are treated fairly and with respect and that they have the opportunity to develop.

Eligibility:
Applicants must have the legal right to live and work in Egypt.
Remuneration:
The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including a non-negotiable gross salary of USD 1,570 per month, subject to insurance and tax as per the usual regulations, based on a 36 hours per week. However, employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary may have their salaries reduced by the equivalent local income tax amount.
We offer a competitive package including medical benefits, performance related bonus, recreational facilities, opportunities for job related training and development, etc. There are no other allowances payable as part of this package. No accommodation nor relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.
The Embassy core hours are Monday to Wednesday 08:00 to 15:30 and Thursday 08:00 to 14:00 and the salary is based on a 36 hour (net) working week. Given the nature of the role, the jobholder would be expected to work occasional evenings and/or weekends. Occasional remote working (in line with the Embassy’s remote working policy may be possible).
This role is for a full-time employment on a fixed term contract basis for one (1) year, subject to three (3) months’ probationary period.
The British Embassy takes learning and development seriously. All members of the Embassy staff have access to a wealth of on-line learning activities through the International Academy and Civil Service College, and face to face opportunities locally, regionally and occasionally in the UK.

Process:
The recruitment process, including security clearance, is expected to take around 2-3 months. The security clearance process includes checks available in country and with UK, dependant on the security level required for the role and the candidates profile and UK footprint. You may experience some delay in the progress of this recruitment campaign, and we are working hard to minimise any disruption.
Appointable candidates who were unsuccessful at interview may be placed on a ‘reserve list’. If during the reserve period of six (6) months the same or a largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second or subsequent candidate.
The start date mentioned in the job advert is a tentative start date and the successful candidate will be required to undergo security-vetting procedures. Any offer of employment will be subject to the candidate achieving suitable clearances.
