Main purpose of job:
To lead on the development and day-to-day management of projects under the UK’s Pacific Integrated Security Fund (ISF) Programme. Working in collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders, including British High Commissions, regional and multi-lateral organisations, the ISF portfolio team in London, UK government departments and NGOs, to maximise the impact of the programme.
Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve:
This is a great opportunity for a highly motivated self-starter with strong project management, financial management and stakeholder management skills. We are looking for an individual with a ‘can do’ approach to help design, oversee and administer projects under the UK’s ISF Pacific Programme, with an expected value of £21m over three years to 2027. The programme works primarily across six countries: Fiji, Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea, Tonga, Samoa and Vanuatu. Projects are clustered under four thematic outcome areas: conflict and stability, security and justice, media strengthening and anti corruption, and maritime security. Based in Suva, you will be required to work both independently and as part of a team and deliver high quality work.
Reporting to the Head of Programme, you will be part of an inclusive and fast paced team, enjoying a reasonable level of autonomy and decision-making. You will be expected to manage relationships with implementing partners confidently and in line with good programme management principles. You will need excellent communication and presentation skills (both written and verbal). This role will also require good political and policy skills to ensure successful cooperation between delivery partners and beneficiaries, and to maximise public diplomacy (media) throughout the lifetime of the programme. You will need to be adaptable and open to taking on new challenges. As with any role, there will be occasions when the work is reactive to instructions and tasking from London or Post Senior Management. All staff are expected to be flexible team players willing to turn their hand to any task. Open to Fiji citizens, permanent residents. Interstate applicants will be required to meet their own travel and relocation expenses.
No accommodation or relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.
Staff recruited locally by the High Commission are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Fiji employment law.
Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary may have their salaries reduced by the equivalent local income tax amount.
Learning and development opportunities:
We are committed to ensuring all staff have relevant developmental training opportunities. There will likely be opportunities to undertake ISF Programme Management training, other specialised training on GESI and Conflict Sensitivity, as well as to attend Global and Regional Learning Events.
Working patterns:
38 hours per week.
The jobholder will be expected to work full-time in the British High Commission. Due to challeges of technology and utilities, remote working is not practical. Though some pre-planned flexibility can be agreed on an ad-hoc basis, and when personal and family commitments demand.
Due to time zone differences, there may be an occasional requirement to join calls outside of working hours with colleagues located in the United Kingdom.

A probationary period of three months, extendable to six, will be used to ensure that the successful candidate is able to deliver this unique and flexible role and that we as an employer meet the candidate’s expectations.

This is a 1-year renewable contract up to 3 years, subject to annual funding approval and a six-month probation period.
As a regional position, the Job Holder should expect to undertake a certain amount of regional travel to successfully support the delivery of the programme. This will be planned in advance and is unlikely to be at the last minute or unexpected.
