Main purpose of job:
The Maintenance Technician provides maintenance on all High Commission properties. This is an important position helping to ensure the smooth running of the High Commission and the enlarged diplomatic estate including the residence. It is therefore imperative the Maintenance Technician provides strong technical skills and a strong customer focus.
Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve:
1. Estates Related work (80%)
- Responsible for day to day maintenance requirements of the British High Commission Office, 3 owned residential properties & 8 leased properties.
- Exhibits a hand-on approach to repair and maintenance work (assess work & execute) and is able to maintain a high standard of workmanship, e.g.
- Fixing of doors and locks, carry out carpentry works by fixing furniture, repair electrical gadgets, plumbing works, flooring works, troubleshoot general problems
- Repair and replace general hardware
- Replace stains and paint buildings/adhoc touch up painting works when required
- Responsible for completing assigned maintenance and repair work and ensuring keeping customers well informed.
- Provide supervision of all contract works carried out by specialists contractors/ electricians/ plumbers & A/C servicing, including planning, scheduling, organising and directing work
2. Inventory and Filing Management (15%)
- Maintain & update record of inventory of tools for the Estates Team
- Maintain and effective filing system for maintenance records
3. Others (5%)
- Available on weekends & public holiday for on call on rotation
- Provide Health and Safety support when needed during official events/ functions.
Language requirements:
- Language: English
- Level of language required: Excellent
Essential on arrival:
- Valid Driver’s License
- Clean Police Report
- Medically fit to perform the role
Desirable:
- Ability to use IT(computers and applications)
- Basic understanding of Health and Safety

Open to Fiji citizens, permanent residents. Interstate applicants will be required to meet their own travel and relocation expenses.
No accommodation or relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.
Staff recruited locally by the High Commission are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Fiji employment law.
Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary may have their salaries reduced by the equivalent local income tax amount.

Working patterns:
Normal working hours are from 08:00 – 16:15 from Mon-Thurs and 08:00 – 13:00 on Fridays. The position is not suitable for home working. We offer flexible working.
There will be occasions when the jobholder will be required to work outside normal working hours at times for which overtime will be paid.
A probationary period of three months, extendable to six, will be used to ensure that the successful candidate is able to deliver this unique and flexible role and that we as an employer meet the candidate’s expectations.
