The British Embassy in Athens is part of a world-wide network, representing a wide range of British interests overseas from political, through Economic, consular and Law Enforcement. The Embassy is now looking for a Handyman/ Plumber to carry out general maintenance work in the Embassy and in Embassy properties, working to agreed maintenance programmes and responding to emergency requests as required. The successful applicant should be capable of carrying out plumbing works, installation, repairs, tests and inspections on existing water systems, as well as other general maintenance works.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Complete general maintenance tasks for all properties within agreed time frames and to agreed standards;
  • Ensure relevant contractors meet contract requirements in terms of work done and agreed time frames;
  • Carry out planned maintenance and refurbishments to plumbing & water systems and respond to breakdowns or faults in a timely, professional & customer focused manner;
  • Ensure effective supervision of contractors at Embassy properties;
  • Assist in completing and maintaining records of various routine inspections required under Health & Safety regulations;
  • Be customer focused, including by working with the Maintenance Technical Officer to communicate updates and progress to customers;
  • Proactively identify and resolve problems on the estate or in residential buildings;
  • Carry out planned preventive maintenance and day-to-day maintenance on offices and residential buildings;
  • All other technical related jobs assigned by the line manager;
  • Out of hours emergency technical support as part of a roster.

  • Fluent in Greek (both written and spoken) C1 Level*;
  • At least Intermediate level of English (and willingness to develop further);
  • At least 2 to 3 years of experience as a plumber in a professional environment;
  • Proven experience in facility maintenance;
  • Full Driving Licence (B2) for both cars and motorcycles (125cc minimum) valid in Greece;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Proven ability to work as a member of a team;
  • Basic knowledge of MS office suite.

  • Experience in general maintenance work such Roofing / Windows / Locks /Tiling/Carpentry/AC, etc.

This is a full-time permanent contract, 40 hours per week.

 

The British Embassy offers a competitive remuneration package, 24 days annual leave entitlement (given pro-rata to staff on fixed-term contracts and/or staff working part-time), a training package and flexible working opportunities. Monthly salary for this position is EUR €1,408.36 (Gross) currently payable 14 times a year (as per Greek labour law). An individual personal development plan will be agreed with the successful candidate.

 

The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a background and security clearance. Anyone with right of residence and employment in Greece may apply, including all EU / EEA citizens and the family members of EU / EEA nationals exercising a treaty right in Greece.
