COMMUNICATIONS (50%)

• With the oversight of the Director of Political Affairs, lead on the development and implementation of the Embassy’s communication strategy, manage digital strategies for events and promote GREAT campaign activities
• Promote the Embassy’s work and activities on social and traditional media channels
• Manage the Embassy’s social media and digital platforms
• Identify compelling stories for media and digital communications that will advance our objectives, working closely with colleagues in the embassy and across the regional Communications Network
• Manage relations with local press
• Provide logistical and media support for Embassy events
• Manage suppliers for satisfactory delivery of digital content for the Embassy channels
• Monitor UK and Dominican social media
• Monitor the Embassy’s General Mailbox
• Daily provision of content to His Majesty’s Ambassador, or with the frequency their diary requires

POLITICAL (25%) 

• Assist the Director of Political Affairs with political research, analysis and reporting as needed by the Ambassador and Deputy Head of Mission
• Make arrangements and ensure logistical support for official visits
• Support at Embassy meetings and events e.g. note-taking, logistical support or informal interpretation
• Draft the Daily News Brief
• Other support as required, for example preparation of Notes Verbale and official communications, courtesy translation of documents or drafting speeches and comments
• Deputise for the Director of Political Affairs in their absence

CHEVENING SCHOLARSHIPS (20%) 

• Provide support to the Embassy Chevening Scholarship programme, including coordinating the candidate selection process and liaising with the UK Alumni Association and our Dominican Chevening alumni
• Lead on advertising, events and fairs to promote the Chevening Programme

OTHER (5%)

• Other duties as required. As part of a small team, this role will also cover for the Director of Political Affairs when they are away and support the wider work of the team as needed

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
• 1-2 years of relevant work experience
• Knowledge and experience of using social media and digital platforms (X/Twitter, Facebook, Instagram)
• A deep interest in and understanding of Dominican Republic media and politics
• Experience in planning events
• Enthusiastic and creative self-starter able to work independently and as part of a team
• Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact with staff at all levels of the organisation with a professional and courteous attitude, as well as external high-level stakeholders
• Excellent writing skills with exceptional spelling, grammar and punctuation
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and other media applications
• Proficiency in MS Office applications
• Experience of managing social media platforms, including developing channel strategies, audience profiling and community building
• Experience managing digital storage and archives
• fluency in written and spoken English and Spanish
• Legal status to live and work in the Dominican Republic in your own right, from time of Application
