Main Purpose of Job:
This is a multifaceted entry-level role for an exceptional individual to join Department for Business and Trade’s China and Hong Kong region as an Finance and HR Support Officer.
Reporting to the Senior HR and Operations Manager in Hong Kong, and being a part of the wider China-Hong Kong Operations team, the successful applicant will play a key role in providing support across multiple functions such as Budget and Performance, HR, Training and more to ensure a smooth operation in the department.
What the Jobholder will be Expected to Achieve:
Financial Data and Procurement Management (45%)
- Use Excel spreadsheets to maintain accurate budget records and create monthly forecasts.
- Ensure financial information accuracy by obtaining quotes from suppliers and consulting colleagues.
- Manage internal systems for budget and procurement tasks.
- Share best practices with other officers to enhance procurement capabilities within the team.
HR and Training Support (35%)
- Provide administrative support on various HR and training duties, such as arranging logistics for recruitment, updating organizational charts, processing job specifications, maintaining e-learning systems, and managing internal events.
- Collaborate with colleagues involved in learning and development initiatives to ensure consistency and alignment in our offerings.
Organisational Support (20%)
- Provide general administrative support to the Operations team.
- Provide customer service and assist internal stakeholders with inquiries related to internal guidance and systems.
- Assist other team members and perform similar administrative tasks when needed, including on-site event support.
- Contribute to corporate initiatives that overlap with operations work.
The exact responsibility of this role is likely to change over time. Candidate will have the opportunity to gain experience in different areas. There is plenty of scope to grow professionally, and we will support you in your development goals should you want to specialise in any of the operation functions.

- The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) is the arm of the UK Government responsible for promoting UK trade across the world and encouraging inward investment.
- Based in British Consulate-General Hong Kong, the DBT Hong Kong team works closely with the China team to oversee trade and investment promotion in Hong Kong and Macao. Find out more about us here.
- This role will report to the Senior HR and Operations Manager.

The jobholder may be required to travel, and any travel would be monitored in line with COVID-19 situation. Some work (including travel) will be required during the evenings and occasionally weekends, for which time off in lieu (where applicable) will be given.

This position is open to Hong Kong citizens, permanent residents, and partners/dependents of UK-based diplomatic staff currently posted in Hong Kong. Employment offers are subject to successful clearance of pre-employment checks. No accommodation or relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position. Candidates must have or be able to obtain work authorisation for Hong Kong in order to apply.
