Main Purpose of Job:

This role is based in Hong Kong and sits with the Global Communication and Marketing Hub team at UK Department for Business and Trade (DBT). The jobholder will be responsible for designing exceptional marketing content for print and digital platforms, as well as providing other in-house design support for both online and offline marketing activities to our offices around the world. You will use your extensive design expertise to create visually stunning and compelling content that effectively communicates complex information to our target businesses and the public.

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • Have hands-on experience and knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects and Premiere Pro. Knowledge in 4D cinema, SketchUp, or interactive HTML-5 based design is a plus.
  • Be good at multitasking and communication.
  • Be able to work in a multicultural office setting.
  • Be confident presenting your concepts to others in English.
  • Give clear advice to marketing projects regarding various forms of multimedia design.
  • Be able to put a complicated/abstract idea into something easy to understand.
  • Be a good problem solver with good analytical thinking and a creative mind.
  • Be aware of the rapidly changing nature of social media – and how to put that to good use.

Sitting along the Global Communication and Marketing Hub, this role provides coverage across the world and is supported by outsourced agencies, helping colleagues across the Department and around the world to shape, manage and deliver joined-up marketing activities that achieves business objectives and meet the needs of our customers (internal and external).

What the Jobholder will be Expected to Achieve:

  • Manage global design projects from concepts to delivery, ranging from social media assets, brochures, banners, large format prints, and event booth design.
  • Design original pieces including graphics, photography, videos and animations and generate creative ideas to portray concepts tailored to our target audiences.
  • Work on local language adaptation of assets.
  • Maintain brand consistency throughout all projects.
  • Ensure high quality design output with good brand compliance.
  • Provide creative consultancy to colleagues on best design practices and art direction and ensure the department and its suite of in-house brands maintains a strong reputation.
  • Support in-house brand enquiries from all over the world to upskill brand knowledge and its application for our local marketing teams around the world, when necessary.
  • Stay up to date with industry standards, tools and trends.
  • Corporate Contribution: Play an active role in embedding the ‘DBT Spirit’ by identifying and progressing opportunities to promote the department’s values of being Expert, Engaged, Enterprising and Inclusive.

Language Requirements:

  • Fluent English
  • Excellent/Highly Proficient (Spoken & Written)

  • Have proven work experience as a senior designer or similar role
  • Good knowledge in B2B environment
  • Experience in photography and video shooting is an advantage
  • Knowledge in 4D cinema, Sketchup, or interactive HTML-5 based design is a plus
  • Knowledge of: Simplified Chinese, Japanese, Korean language are an asset, but not required
  • Experience of, or can demonstrate an interest in, working in an international environment

This position is open to Hong Kong citizens, permanent residents, and partners/dependents of UK-based diplomatic staff currently posted in Hong Kong. Employment offers are subject to successful clearance of pre-employment checks. No accommodation or relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position. Candidates must have or be able to obtain work authorisation for Hong Kong in order to apply.

The jobholder may be required to travel. Some work (including travel) will be required during the evenings and occasionally weekends, for which time off in lieu (where applicable) will be given.
