Main Purpose of Job:
This is an exciting and fast-paced opportunity for an enthusiastic and adaptable individual to lead the Marketing and Communications function for the UK’s Department for Business and Trade in Hong Kong.
We are seeking a candidate who can contribute to the team’s trade and investment ambitions by designing and executing strategic marketing and communications campaigns. With the support of a team member and as part of the broader Marketing and Communications function, you will play a key role in enhancing the reputation of the UK Government, while promoting the UK as a first-class destination for inward investment and an export powerhouse in Hong Kong.
In this position, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with prominent UK and Hong Kong-based companies and organizations at both senior and operational levels. You will also have the autonomy to develop creative and innovative marketing and communications strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Marketing Strategy and Leadership
- Develop and implement marketing and communications strategies to enhance the UK’s reputation as a leading destination for inward investment and an export powerhouse across various sectors.
- Utilize data to evaluate the success of strategies and refine future directions.
- Create communications plans for key events, such as trade deals, Ministerial visits, and major events.
- Lead internal capacity building by sharing expertise and knowledge with Marketing and Communications Champions in the team.
- Collaborate with the Operations team to oversee the use of marketing budgets
- Optimize workflows in collaboration with the Global Marketing and Communications Hub, ensuring strategy alignment and smooth coordination on production briefs.
- Collaborate with the wider British Consulate General Hong Kong Communications and Marketing teams to ensure objectives align and support overarching UK government communications strategy.
2. Campaign and Channel Management
- Manage a wide variety of marketing and communications channels and campaigns, including digital, social, experiential, media and PR, with the support of an officer
- Measure KPI and performances using tools such as Hootsuite and Instagram Professional Dashboard
- Oversee the production of e-newsletters and ensure the timely delivery of regular performance reports, including subscription rates, opens, clicks, and similar metrics.
3. Partnership and Engagement
- Collaborate with sector specialists, other departments within the Consulate in Hong Kong, and across the China region to align communications messaging and marketing strategies.
- Actively seek corporate partnerships and sponsorships for marketing activities, to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes

- This role will report to the Director for Trade and Investment.

- Undergraduate degree in business, international trade or other relevant areas
- Minimum 6 years working experience in marketing, communications, events or public relations
- Excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese (Cantonese)
- Knowledge of marketing channels and tools
- Strong organisational skills
- Ability to prioritise and deliver high quality work under tight deadlines
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work in and contribute as a team player

Our Offer:
The jobholder may be required to travel, and any travel would be monitored in line with COVID-19 situation. Some work (including travel) will be required during the evenings and occasionally weekends, for which time off in lieu (where applicable) will be given.

This position is open to Hong Kong citizens, permanent residents, and partners/dependents of UK-based diplomatic staff currently posted in Hong Kong. Employment offers are subject to successful clearance of pre-employment checks. No accommodation or relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position. Candidates must have or be able to obtain work authorisation for Hong Kong in order to apply.
