The British Embassy in Tel Aviv is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and we are seeking to recruit a Director to lead the Department for Business & Trade (DBT) team at the Embassy, working with Israel–UK Tech Hub and Science & Innovation colleagues on the UK Israel Prosperity Strategy.
This is a vital role in the British Embassy. It attracts strong interest from UK senior officials and Ministers, who will visit from time to time to advance the agenda. It is an ideal role to develop skills in working internationally and delivering real world results with impact.
The Director will lead on trade and investment for the UK in Israel, increasing collaboration and strengthening the bilateral relationship. The Director will also be responsible for ensuring that all DBT trade and investment targets are met. This involves managing the delivery of trade and investment services to UK companies that wish to access opportunities in Israel or increase their market penetration, supporting Israeli companies considering investing in Britain, and monitoring market developments and market access issues within the framework of the UK Israel Trade Continuity Agreement post Brexit.
The Director will also play a key role in advancing the ongoing Free Trade Agreement negotiations between the UK and Israel, strategically advising where needed the UK negotiating team and providing expert and informed advice on a range of relevant policy areas.
The Country Director formally reports to the Ambassador, working in support of DBT’s Trade Commissioner’s objectives for Europe and closely with DBT’s Europe South Regional Director and COO. The Country Director will be expected to play an active role in the wider leadership team in DBT Europe to which DBT Israel belongs, and in the Embassy leadership team.

Working hours and remuneration:
The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including a non-negotiable salary of ILS 26,000 per month plus transport allowance and social benefits: Pension employer contribution 7.5% and Keren Hishtalmut employer contribution 7.5%.
No accommodation nor relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position. Parking facilities are not provided nor paid for by the Embassy.
This position is for a full-time employment, on a permanent contract, subject to a 6-month probationary period.
Working hours is 37.5 per week. Normal working hours are Monday to Thursday 8:00-16:00 and Friday 8:00-13:30. This is a Hybrid position subject to work priorities. Flexibility is required in order to attend events out of hours and occasional travel abroad.
Any flexible working patterns may be considered based on operational requirements and agreement with the line manager, and in line with FCDO and Embassy policies.

Process:
The recruitment process, including security clearance, is expected to take around two-three months. The security clearance process includes checks available in country and with UK, dependant on the security level required for the role and the candidates profile and UK footprint. You may experience some delay in the progress of this recruitment campaign, and we are working hard to minimise any disruption.
Appointable candidates who were unsuccessful at interview may be placed on a ‘reserve list’. If during the reserve period of six (6) months the same or a largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second or subsequent candidate.
