The British Embassy in Bucharest is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is seeking to recruit an Immigration Liaison Assistant to the Home Office International Operations.

The Immigration Liaison Assistant will provide administrative and organisational support to the International Liaison Manager (ILM) and International Liaison Officer (ILO) as necessary. They will also contribute to the wider objectives of the British Government’s Romania network and to support the Embassy’s positive working environment by becoming part of the British Government’s presence in Romania.

 

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Manage the team email inbox including responding to, actioning and referring on emails as appropriate.
  • Maintain risk databases, including substantial data entry and related background research and development.
  • Prepare statistics, reports.
  • Carry out translations (written and verbal).
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders including Embassy colleagues, airlines and local Law Enforcement across the region.
  • Organise regional travel, training sessions and internal/external meetings in consultation with the ILO/M.

  • Fluency at C1 level in English and Romanian, both spoken and written, according to the CEFR framework*.
  • Essential on arrival:  IT literacy, a good knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams and Power Point is essential.
  • Flexibility. Occasionally the position may require the job holder to work extended hours or work flexibly, sometimes at short notice; this may include some travel.
  • The ability to work effectively within a small team.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of the wider Embassy structure, in accordance with embassy values, contributing to wider corporate life.

  • Experience of working in an international/multilateral environment.
  • Previous administrative experience.
  • Basic knowledge of UK and Romanian government/civil service structures.
  • Previous experience or knowledge of the travel industry, aviation and/or security sectors.

This is a full-time, fixed-term contract for 24 months (35 hours net per week) with possibility of extension by mutual agreement. Working hours are flexible and staff are entitled to time-off-in-lieu for agreed extra hours worked.

 

The annual leave entitlement is 25 days per year pro rata and the Embassy also enjoys a maximum of 14 Romanian / UK public holidays per year.

 

The monthly salary is 8,000 RON gross, in addition, staff are entitled to a 13th month salary pro rata and may receive a performance related bonus at year end. Staff also receive meal vouchers and a monthly subscription to a medical centre. An individual personal development plan will be agreed with the successful candidate, which may include training outside Romania. The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a background check and security clearance, and satisfactory completion of a probationary period of 30 working days.

 

All applicants should have a pre-existing legal status to live and work in Romania. The British Embassy does not facilitate/sponsor visa applications and work permits. Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy are subject to terms and conditions service according to Romanian employment law.

 

Visa/work permit requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Romania and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract. Please note that it is your responsibility to ensure you meet the legal requirements to live and work in this country.
