The primary role of this position is to offer commercial and administrative support to the Health & Life Sciences Sector Team within the Department for Business and Trade at the British Embassy in Mexico. This role will operate under and report directly to the Health & Life Sciences Senior Trade Officer in the team.

The successful candidate will collaborate with UK exporters and investors in the Health & Life Sciences  sector, aiming to increase trade and investment activities. The successful candidate will support and develop relationships with British and Mexican companies, and deliver an impactful programme of activities focussed on highlighting the UK’s expertise in the Health & Life Sciences.  The successful candidate is also expected to carry out research and to provide support for both in-person and virtual events.

Roles and responsibilities:

Contribute towards the Trade and Investment objectives of the team: (80%)

  • Organise and provide logistics support for virtual and in-person events, meetings and trade missions related to the Health & Life Sciences sector.
  • Update information on the sector (one pagers, databases, calendars, pipelines, project-tracking system).
  • Participate in internal and external meetings to promote the UK offer and provide an overview of the Mexican market.

Collaborate with different teams: (10%)

  • Engage with colleagues and stakeholders in Mexico, the wider LATAC region and the UK to deliver projects and events.

Provide daily reports on Health & Life Sciences Sector news: (5%)

  • Carry out monitoring of news and media outlets to gather information for market research relevant to the sector and for the creation of reports and newsletters.

Contribute to the corporate objectives of the Embassy (5%)

  • Deliver work in line with Embassy Values (Honesty, Professionalism, Inclusion & Respect)
  • Actively contribute to the Interns Advisory Group, and the activities they organise.

  • Proactive team player with strong inter-personal communication skills, attention to detail, and a strong desire to learn.
  • Ability to work effectively, independently and deliver results.
  • Interest in creating and nourishing interpersonal relationships with stakeholders and team members.
  • High-level of competence in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Must be enrolled in an undergraduate programme or recently graduated (e.g. International Relations, Economics, Administration, International Business, Engineering on relevant field, etc.).

Language requirements: 

Language: English and Spanish 
Level of language required:  Excellent verbal and written skills.

  • Experience or knowledge of the Health & Life Sciences landscape in Mexico and the UK (or ability to gain knowledge quickly).
  • Experience or knowledge of database management and market research.
  • Experience or knowledge in customer service.
  • Innovative, curious mindset keen to take on that’s up for taking on new challenges.

Candidates must be able to live and work in Mexico in their own right. The successful candidate will be subject to a security clearance and professional reference checks. Candidate must be based in CDMX.

Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, eg some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.

Appointable candidates who were unsuccessful may be placed on a ‘reserve list’. If during the reserve period of 6-12 months the same or a largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second or subsequent candidate.

Working patterns:

Expectation is to work under a hybrid model in line with Embassy’s policy (3 days working at the office). 25 hours per week of work expected.
