The British Embassy in Kazakhstan is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic, trade, and consular interests overseas and is now looking for an International Trade Advisor (Mining Sector Lead).
Main purpose of job:
– To provide export and trade support to British companies exporting to and operating in Kazakhstan in the mining sector.
– To facilitate investment partnerships between Kazakh and British Investors looking to bring British mining explorers and operators to Kazakhstan.
Roles and responsibilities
1. Сomprehensive work on the mining sector that includes the full support of British companies, chambers and associations;
• the organisation of inward/outward trade missions (to request the budget for trade missions, to develop programmes and logistics);
• the search and identification of projects within the development of the mining sector of the Republic of Kazakhstan and other business projects;
• Development and management of the project pipeline and inform UK companies about potential cooperation/tenders/projects.
• Conduct the necessary research to contribute to the sector brief (with the help of marketing and analytics agencies);
• Support the regional mining lead with the budget management and delivery of regional mining campaigns, undertake tailored market-entry reports for companies;
• Participate and speak at various events to showcase the Kazakh market’s capabilities and vice-versa to promote British expertise and technologies.
2. Identification and work on the removal of barriers in the mining sector. Full support of British companies, lobbying interests at all levels, working closely with Market access officer, Regional Market Access Co-ordinator and relevant public bodies.
3. Support the Country Director, Ambassador, and regional mining lead in representational duties in this sector including drafting briefings and speeches. Manage allocated budgets for individual mining events.
- Fluency in English and Russian (both oral and written, minimum C1 level*).
- Previous commercial and business development experience in international companies.
- Proven experience in event management with commercial purpose.
- University degree.
- Good project management, including an eye for detail, to ensure that all aspects of service delivery have been thought through carefully.
- Customer focus: a concern for quality and drive for continuous improvement in the service provided.
- Excellent communication skills to work well with commercial clients, external contacts and a wide and diverse Embassy team.
- Drive and enthusiasm combined with the ability to deliver, working as part of a team.
- Resourcefulness and ability to act on own initiative, with an ability to find creative solutions when the unexpected occurs.
- Great IT skills, especially Word, PowerPoint and Excel, are needed.
- Fluency in Kazakh (both oral and written, minimum C1 level*).
- Experience of mining sector and events delivery.

This is a fixed-term contract with possibility of renewal and full-time position of 5 working days (36 hours net) per week.
Salary will be USD 1,898 per calendar month (gross). Please note that it is the employee’s responsibility to pay individual income tax.
Employees are entitled to annual leave entitlement pro-rata based on 25 days total per calendar year. In addition, the Embassy observes up to 14 days public holidays marking different Kazakh and UK holidays. The Embassy provides medical insurance for the job holder and two dependants.

The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a professional background check and security clearance, and is expected to commence employment as soon as possible. The successful candidate must have pre-existing work authorisation for the Kazakhstan in order to apply. All applicants should have the right to live and work in Kazakhstan.
