Main purpose of job:
The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) works with UK businesses to support UK exports and bilateral investment in Mexico. Headquartered in Mexico City, DBT Mexico works across priority sectors covering the entire country.
As part of the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) at the Embassy in Mexico City, the main purpose of this position is to support Mexico FDI Team to promote relevant FDI opportunities in the UK. Working under the Mexico FDI Head, you will be liaising with key contacts and partners in the UK and Mexico, carrying out business and market research to share commercial intelligence with interested parties, responding to Mexican companies enquiries on the UK ecosystem, , assisting in the logistics and delivery of commercial missions and events, as well as keeping track of administrative tasks.
Roles and responsibilities:
- Supporting senior colleagues in advising investors and prospective investors from Mexico to the UK with market reports, connections, advice and general support on internationalizing.
- Having good eye for designing and putting together one-pagers and presentations simplifying complex information
- Conducting business and market research as needed.
- Monitoring the media/internet for opportunities and bringing relevant information to the attention of colleagues in the UK and Mexico.
- Following up on enquiries from Mexican companies.
- Assisting in the organisation of activities/events/missions/visits.
- Collaborating in keeping track of, and updating, databases and our CRM system (Data Hub) to ensure our pipeline and engagement activities are up to date.
- Assisting members of the FDI regional team (Brazil and Colombia).
- Performing other administrative tasks as required.
Language requirements:
Language: English and Spanish
Level of language required: Fluent level, verbal and written, in both English and Spanish.

Essential on arrival:
- The candidate must be recently graduated or approaching graduation (within the last 4 semesters of their degree), preferably in International Relations, Business, International Commerce, Business Administration, Economy, Marketing or other related areas.
- Availability to start their internship in the proposed date (successful candidates will start the role in July 2026).
- Experience with preparing and designing Marketing materials using graphic design tools such as Canva, ADOBE, Photoshop and others.
- Well-developed analytic and research skills and abilities to create and manage databases.
- Ability to complete administrative tasks on time and to a high standard.
- Translation abilities (English-Spanish).
- Bilingual (fluent level in both Spanish and English).
- Proactive and with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Must have the right to work and reside in Mexico.

Desirable:
- Knowledge on the implementation of B2B Marketing/Growth strategies, including stablishing KPIs and monitoring them.
- Evidence of trade or investment related experience or interest.
- Knowledge of the UK offer to foreign investors.
- Experience on both the UK and Latin American business environments and cultures.
- Proficient user of MS Office (especially Excel) and previous experience with CRM.

Candidates must be able to live and work in Mexico in their own right at time of application.
The successful candidate will be subject to a security clearance and professional reference checks.
Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, eg some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.
Appointable candidates who were unsuccessful may be placed on a ‘reserve list’. If during the reserve period of 6 months the same or a largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second or subsequent candidate.
Learning and development opportunities:
The chosen candidate will undertake the DBT Induction course. Depending on availability, the chosen candidate would be eligible to take internal courses to become better acquainted with the UK offer and areas of expertise.

Working patterns:
- Must be available for a period of a year. Mixed working pattern: 5 hours a day during weekdays negotiable with Line Manager.
- Embassy operational times (working pattern should be between these time periods): Monday to Thursday: 8:00 – 16:30 Friday: 8:00 – 14:00
- This is a hybrid role, with 3 days in office and up to 2 days work from home.
