Main purpose of job:
To support the IT team in BHC, Dhaka in providing IT and Telecoms support. The job requires working from office regularly. It also may require physical presence during odd hours, weekends to support essential maintenance

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve:

  • Proactively maintain and support the Main IT networks Firecrest, Osprey. Support the Technical Assistants, in maintenance and fault finding in support of the BHC and compound distributed network.
  • Support in maintenance of compound telephony and IT cabling.  Locate and repair cable faults on telephony systems anywhere in the office and BHC Compound.  Telephony Support: Patching, testing.
  • Act as liaison between local users, the Help Desk in the UK, and other IT stakeholders.
  • Directs the activities of individual IT Support Officers to ensure that all systems are operated and managed efficiently and in accordance with IT directives and guidelines.
  • Report faulty equipment in timely manner. Arrange to despatch faulty kit to helpdesk.
  • Support Connection and disconnection of IT equipment, support in Office moves.
  • Arrange routine maintenance, fault repair and disposals of Office equipment (photocopiers, shredders, laminators, and stand-alone computers). Conduct routine checks and maintenance of UPS , Battery. Support in disposal of redundant, approved hardware, as per FCDO’s policies and documentation
  • Support for standalone systems: Updating, Checking, maintaining to the ICSD standards- for e.g. bit locker, encryption.
  • Maintain spares for FCDO System and perform all types of repair work (if required, with instruction from UK).
  • Local Databases – Responsible for creation/modification
  • Manage, maintain, troubleshoot ECHO phone system for High Commission buildings
  • Wi-Fi – Manage, maintain FCDO standalone (including cloud switch configuration) and main point of contact for post FCDO Managed
  • Maintain local telephone system – ISDN (with the support from service provider)
  • Satellite phone maintenance
  • BHC Staff Amenities Centre – Responsible for IT System, PABX and CCTV
  • Support for maintenance, and upkeep of IT stores, including record keeping and asset management.
  • Carry out physical duties – lifting equipment, install cabling and connections in office i.e. under desks, in patch cabinets and server rooms.
  • Support in setting up / guiding users with presentations, Videoconferences, Microsoft teams meetings.
  • Support in reconciling bills from the service providers and suppliers, recording in database, scanning bills for payment processing, keep tracking of payment status where required.
  • Support in supervision of external contractors carrying out works in the vicinity of any BHC equipment around the compound.
  • Play an active role in Post’s Business Continuity Plan and Crisis Management Plan.
  • Facilitates and maintains a productive working relationship with other IT and non-IT groups and departments to identify technology requirements and co-ordinate technology activities.
  • Carry out other duties as and when required, provide technical support/assistance for any other system used in post by FCDO.

The above list is not exhaustive, and the jobholder will be required to be flexible and take on other ad hoc tasks as required.

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining high standards of service whilst meeting the diverse requirements of IT security and systems integrity. We are looking for a highly professional individual, flexible, well organised and adept at juggling competing demands, as well as being able to manage customer and central IT department expectations

Essential on arrival:     

  • Good IT and networking skills with in-depth knowledge of Microsoft products: MS Windows 10/11 & MS Office 365.
  • LAN design and WIFI networks integrating security (Firewall configuration, etc).
  • Experience in Telephony and VoIP
  • Hardware skills: able to change printer/workstation components as well as troubleshooting general hardware issues. Experience of installation and maintenance of desktops, laptops, mobile devices.
  • Excellent English communication skills

Desirable:     

  • Qualifications: CCNA Networks , CCNP Networks, BCA (computer hardware networking) / CompTIA A+ and Networks+
  • Minimum 3-year experience in IT support and customer handling
  • Experience working in an international organisation or diplomatic mission
  • An IELTS score of 6 or above

For British High Commission (BHC) candidates, the Country Based Staff Terms & Conditions will apply.

The salary will be all inclusive of BDT 133,915 per month for working full time. For part-time employment the salary will be pro-rata based on the working hours.

Please note – Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary may have their salaries reduced by the equivalent local income tax amount
