The British Embassy Amman has a vacancy for a Residence Housekeeper job grade S3 on a fixed term contract for two years.
The Housekeeper is a vital member of the Residence team, working under the direction of the Head Butler and Residence & Events Manager to provide seamless hospitality and first-class service to the His Majesty’s Ambassador and visitors. This role encompasses a diverse range of responsibilities, including event preparation and service, guest care, housekeeping duties, and ensuring the Residence is maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness and presentation. As an integral part of the Ambassador’s team, the jobholder must be a proactive and dependable team player, consistently upholding the highest standards of service and discretion.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Maintain the Residence to an immaculate standard, including representational spaces, guest suites, and private living quarters of the Ambassador.
- Oversee daily cleaning routines with close attention to detail, ensuring compliance with hygiene and presentation requirements.
- Oversee laundry and linen duties, ensuring the proper cleaning, care, and presentation of guest garments and table linens.
- Assist in the preparation and set-up of official functions, receptions, and private events held at the Residence.
- Provide support to service operations by assisting with guest service, coat management, and stewarding duties as required.
- Support overnight guest stays by preparing rooms to a high standard, including turndown service when required.
- Monitor housekeeping supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels and reporting replenishment needs promptly.
- Work closely with the Residence & Events Manager, Head Butler, and wider Residence team to ensure seamless service delivery.
- Uphold discretion, reliability, and professionalism at all times.
Other Responsibilities
- Support the Butler and Residence Manager in training and mentoring junior staff.
- Assist with special projects or additional duties as required by the Residence team.
- Uphold health and safety regulations, ensuring all working practices adhere to hygiene and fire safety protocols.
- Participate in regular team meetings and contribute to improving service standards and efficiency.

Working Hours and Remuneration
The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including a non-negotiable gross salary of 840 JOD per month based on 40 hours per week.
Salary will be paid in gross, and you are expected to comply with your tax obligations through completion of a tax return to the local authorities. If exceptionally you are not liable to pay Jordanian tax, you will receive a net salary, which is minus the deduction of an equivalent level of local tax. Further information on this will be provided at interview if necessary.
This role is for a full-time employment on a fixed term contract basis for two years. The successful candidate will be subject to a 90-day probationary period. The appointment is subject to satisfactory local and UK security clearances. The selected candidate must have the right to live and work in Jordan.
Normal working hours for this role will be Sundays to Thursdays from 08:00-16:00. The Embassy operates a flexible working policy that allows staff to work different hours as well as allowing staff to work from home one day a week, based on operational requirements and agreement with the line manager, and in line with FCDO and Embassy policies.
The package includes a good level of health insurance and a friendly, English-speaking work environment. We offer opportunities to develop professional skills through our Learning & Development offer. Leave entitlement is 25 days (on pro rata basis) plus 14 public holidays.
Support will be given for English lessons if needed and basic or essential training that all staff receive. Training for lifting and waiting will also be given along with cleaning and housekeeping duties. The Embassy follows a 70-20-10 model of learning. You are expected to have a proactive approach to your own learning, and your Line Manager will help you develop a personalised L&D plan and will share opportunities, resources, and guidance to ensure you have any necessary learning for the role with ability to achieve full potential. You will also be encouraged to undertake developmental training and get involved in BE Amman corporate activities that offer an opportunity for professional development.
