Main purpose of job:
The Department for Business and Trade is the Trade and Investment Promotion and Negotiation organisation for the UK. We promote British trade and investment across the world, we support UK businesses overseas and attract foreign investment to our shores. We have 3,000 staff across the globe in over 100 countries.
DBT divides the world into 9 regions, each led by His Majesty’s Trade Commissioner. The Latin American and the Caribbean Region (LATAC) is led from Sao Paulo by Jonathan Knott CMG. The Network is represented in 19 Posts with a team of over 170.
The LATAC International Market Team (IMT) is the Region’s universal entry point for UK businesses and serves as a frontline response to triage enquiries and connect companies with internal or external support, with the core aim to help UK firms win and expand their business in the region.
We are currently looking to recruit an LATAC IMT Intern that will provide administrative support to the team.
This is an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced, multicultural, and fascinating environment, in an important function. The jobholder will report to the LATAC IMT Executive and support in handling the day-to-day operations of the regional team.
We are looking for someone who is open to new ideas and ways of working, is capable of working with constantly changing priorities and managing a full workload in a multicultural and regional team. Experience of working in business administration is desirable.
Roles and responsibilities:
The jobholder will work closely with the LATAC IMT Executive based in Sao Paulo in order to:
- provide administrative support to the LATAC IMT as needed, arranging meetings and travel, managing documents and providing support to the whole team
- assist the team with the creation and edit of documents, presentations, reports, etc., as well as helping the team with ad-hoc commissions from headquarters and other regional initiatives
- assist with the LATAC IMT’s internal efforts, engaging with colleagues throughout the region, and gathering information as needed
- support the LATAC IMT Team with data management and regular quality checks to the various sets of data that feed into the performance reports
The jobholder should be quick, accurate and discreet. Key skills include being a good planner, able to juggle competing demands, switch between different functions and be comfortable working at speed with many different internal customers. We expect the successful candidate to be keen to be part of a culture of excellence, respect, and of working together.

- Ongoing education degree in Business Administration, International Relations, Economics or any related course
- Possess an excellent command of written and spoken English and Portuguese
- Strong organisational, analytical, communication, proactivity, customer service, and team-working skills
- Excellent computer skills, including familiarity with the Microsoft Office suite of programs
- A positive, resilient, flexible and adaptable “can-do” attitude that can see way through challenges
- Well organised, results driven person that is self-motivated to achieve individual and team success
Language requirements:
Language: English and Portuguese (required). Spanish (desirable).
Level of language required: Full fluency in English and Portuguese (written and verbal) are essential.
Candidates must have the legal status to live and work in Brazil

- The British Consulate in São Paulo offers an attractive and great working environment
- Duration – This position if for 1 year, with possible extensions of up to 2 years
- This is a part time position of 30 hours per week, which are flexible between the hours of 8am and 6pm.
Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, eg some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.
Appointable candidates who were unsuccessful may be placed on a ‘reserve list’. If during the reserve period of 6-12 months the same or a largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second or subsequent candidate.
