Main purpose of job: The UK Government is committed to delivering a cleaner and greener planet, through its international climate and biodiversity programmes and policies that contribute to halting nature loss globally. To augment the work of the Climate and Environment Officer at the British Embassy in Antananarivo, who co-chairs the Environment Sector Coordination Platform, we are seeking to recruit a new position to help coordinate and strategically shape the current programming of the UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) and its future investments in Madagascar. The purpose of this role is to enhance coordination and drive implementation of the Biodiverse Landscapes Fund and wider DEFRA programming in Madagascar. The post holder will also be expected to provide strategic advice to DEFRA on how its portfolio in Madagascar could be improved in the future, drawing on best practice and lessons learned.

Learning and development opportunities: The post-holder will be expected to participate in self-development to continually improve performance/systems. The UK government is committed to learning and development and will seek, funding permitted, to support development activities that are identified. DEFRA programmes operate across multiple countries and there may be opportunities for travel related to this, including to the UK. DEFRA’s programming in Madagascar is also geographically dispersed and the postholder will be expected to undertake significant travel to monitor and support these investments, as well as support inward visits from DEFRA. |
