Main purpose of job:

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a fast paced and dynamic team as the lead for the British Deputy High Commission’s (BDHC) communications, programs, and events. The position is ideally suited for an energetic, motivated and organized individual who is not afraid to take on tasks and wants to be close to the heart of the BDHC’s work in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

The successful candidate will work with the Deputy High Commissioner (DHC) and colleagues to develop and deliver external communications for the BDHC, including oversight of the BDHC’s social media accounts, to work with India network colleagues on a small number of projects in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh and to support the planning and delivery of BDHC events & visits.

We reserve the right to review, revise or amend the roles and responsibilities from time to time reflecting the changing needs of business.

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve:

Communications Officer: (40%)

  • Work with the Deputy High Commissioner (DHC), colleagues in Hyderabad and the media team in New Delhi to provide external communications that focus on what the British government is doing in AP and TS.

  • Oversee media relations, including managing the UKinHyderabad X handle, arranging interactions and interviews with local media outlets and responding to journalist queries.

  • Assuring the quality of all communications outputs (including but not limited to proofreading print, digital and other online and offline media in English)

  • Managing branding collaterals & branding elements in office, events & visits by coordinating with the branding team in New Delhi.

Events: (30%)

  • Working with the Deputy Head of Mission and colleagues in Hyderabad, the central visits team in Delhi and network colleagues to support the design, planning and delivery of events & inward visits in AP and TS.

  • Working with the Corporate Services team in Hyderabad to oversee the logistics and budget for events & visits, including liaising with relevant teams and, if required, negotiating with partners to ensure the smooth delivery of visits & events.

Programs: (30%)

  • Support project leads in New Delhi to deliver technical assistance programs in AP and TS This could include coordinating with state officials, delivery partners and project leads to ensure effective delivery against key outputs.

  • Work with colleagues from the Department of Business and Trade to identify potential strategic engagements to develop, via program work, markets in AP and TS that could potentially create business opportunities for UK companies.

Language requirements:

Language: English (mandatory), Hindi / Telugu (not mandatory but desirable)

Level of language required: Proficient in reading, writing & speaking English.

Working patterns:

The UK in India network expects all staff to work 4 days a week in the office.

The British Deputy High Commission (BDHC) in Hyderabad is an office of 15 people with a focus of supporting UK trade and investment links and science and innovation partnerships in the two Telugu states. It also works on other issues including climate change and supporting the work of civil society. We help deliver successful VIP visits and host a number of events, from small dinners to large receptions.  We do not issue UK visas for Indian (or other) passport holders.

This role works across all teams in the BDHC and will work closely with the Corporate Services team within the BDHC which ensures the smooth and efficient running of the office. The corporate services team provides a range of services including human resources, finance, IT, transport, estates and procurement. 

You will work closely with the Deputy High Commissioner & Deputy Head of Mission. This role requires a team player with good communication skills and a proactive attitude in helping the BDHC deliver its objectives.

Essential on arrival:  

Qualifications: Graduate/Postgraduate from reputed University.

Candidate needs to have:

  • Minimum 2 years of work experience
  • Communications experience, e.g. social media, marketing, multimedia role
  • Good communication, organizational and interpersonal skills including working with senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to think creatively to solve problems.
  • Be enthusiastic and adaptable.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including working with senior stakeholders & excellent communication skills

Desirable:

  • Experience in program and/or event management.

For British High Commission candidates, the Country Based Staff BHC Terms & Conditions will apply.

For other than BHC Candidates, salary will be all-inclusive of INR 75,359 month plus 12% Provident Fund and 6% Special Allowance. Salary is non-negotiable.

Additionally, the BHC offers a great benefits package that includes annual domiciliary medical cover, plus a Group Hospitalisation Scheme with INR 500,000 floater cover for your immediate family.

No relocation or any other related costs or assistance will be provided.

Please note – BHC does not deduct tax at source and employees are required to ensure that any requirements of local income-tax law are complied with in full. Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, e.g., some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.
