Main purpose of job:

To repair and maintain official fleet vehicles of the British Deputy High Commission, Karachi. Category of vehicles include 4×4 vehicles both armoured and soft skin, as well as salon cars and motorbikes. As a mechanic, you will play a key role in keeping these vehicles roadworthy. In doing so, you will ensure that the maintenance is conducted in accordance with the manufacturer’s handbook, governed by the UK standards. 

We reserve the right to review, revise or amend the roles and responsibilities from time to time reflecting the changing needs of business.

Roles and responsibilities of the position (what jobholder will be doing on regular basis):

  1. Oversee “Daily vehicle checks” conducted by drivers to ensure any faults reported are looked at with priority.
  2. Maintain “Vehicle Service History”, ensure all maintenance conducted is recorded promptly.
  3. Conduct Pre-Trip Inspection of vehicles prior to commencement of any field trip, record findings on file.
  4. Conduct six monthly and yearly safety inspection/repair of the vehicles and keep the record file up to date.
  5. Conduct scheduled service intervals, 5000 KM or 6 Months, accurate record must be kept in Service History.
  6. Job holder must hold a valid driver’s licence.
  7. Job holder will be required to use vehicle diagnostic scanner and read and rectify DTCs.
  8. Ensure all Tools and Equipment are kept serviceable, up to date inventory of items in the Garage.
  9. Cover Chief Mechanic in absence.
  10. Outdoor activity including buying parts and equipment for vehicles and garage.


Mechanical tasks that the job-holder will be expected to perform:

  1. Overhaul engines for Toyota Land Cruiser, 200 Series VDJ200 V8 Engines.
  2. Service Braking systems.
  3. Suspension Systems.
  4. Transaxle System
  5. Electrical System
  6. Conduct test drives to verify vehicle serviceability requirements.
  7. Exhaust System including DPF.
  8. Intake System including EGR.

The above list is not exhaustive, you will be expected to work independently on other tasks as well and could be asked to come in on short notice outside of working hours, including over weekends, if needed.

Essentials On Arrival:

  • At least 5 years of experience in maintaining and repairing armoured and soft-skin vehicles.
  • Must hold an In-depth knowledge of engine mechanics
  • Good knowledge about vehicle electrical modules and should be able to use Diagnostic Scanners.
  • Certificate of competency in Automobile Engineering from a recognised institute in Pakistan or abroad.
  • Must hold a valid driver’s licence with ability to drive heavy vehicles.
  • Must have IT skills, should be able to use computer and access emails.
  • Experienced in working with a high performing organisation, equipped to handle challenging demands and meet tight targets.
  • Adequate English language skill, should be able to read, write and express in English.

The required skills and qualifications would be assessed through a test, which would be conducted during the hiring process.

  • Language: English
  • Level of language required: Able to read, write and speak.

Desired Skills:

  • Experienced in working on Toyota vehicles will be given priority.

For BHC candidates, the Country Based Staff BHC Terms & Conditions will apply.

For other than BHC candidates the basic salary will be PKR 98,951 per month. This salary is non-negotiable.

Please note that the current salaries are being dollarized and processed in USD (using a fixed corporate exchange rate from November 2022) to provide cushion against the current external market conditions. This is a temporary measure and is subject to review at regular intervals. The payroll will revert to local currency processing once the external market conditions are normalised.

BHC offers a great benefits package that comprises of Annual Domiciliary cover and Medical Insurance Scheme which includes PKR 1,500,000 floater coverage per family for self, one spouse/long term partner and children under the age of 19 or under 23, if in full-time education and not gainfully employed. The Annual Domiciliary cover for day-to-day medical payments is upto PKR 200,000 per family (basis actual bills submission).

 Additionally, The British High Commission contributes to a retirement provision in the form of a mandatory provident fund.
