Main purpose of job:

The British Embassy in Mexico City is recruiting a Financial and Professional Services Intern for the Department for Business and Trade (DBT). The intern will provide administrative and commercial engagement support to the Financial & Professional Services team within the Commercial Section of DBT and will report to the Financial and Professional Services Trade Officer.

The successful candidate will carry out research and administrative tasks as well as support in events (in-person and virtual) during the course of the contract. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with an interest in the financial and professional services sector to gain experience working for a major foreign mission. We particularly welcome university students and recent graduates who are pursuing/have pursued a programme in finance, professional services, international business, and/or other related fields.

Please note that this role is only available to residents of Mexico City.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Provide logistics support in trade missions, visit programmes, and webinars related to the Financial & Professional Services sector.
  • Market research and report generation.
  • Support with administrative tasks.
  • Engage with Embassy and external teams as needed.
  • Support stakeholder and account management of UK Financial and Professional Services companies.

  • Ability to conduct research on relevant market and commercial topics, analyse findings and write reports.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and writing and communication skills in English and Spanish (preferably fluent in both).
  • Ability to manage your own time and deliver at pace.
  • Ability to undertake administrative tasks.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Adaptable mindset.
  • Legal status to live and work in Mexico in your own right, at the time of application.
  • Mexico City Resident

  • Knowledge of or relevant experience in the financial, professional services and/or international trade sectors.
  • Stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to conduct business analytics.

Candidates must be able to live and work in Mexico in their own right.

The successful candidate will be subject to a security clearance and professional reference checks.

Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, e.g. some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.  

Appointable candidates who were unsuccessful may be placed on a ‘reserve list’.  If during the reserve period of 6-12 months the same or a largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second or subsequent candidate.

Working patterns:

This internship is 25 hours per week and is a hybrid role, with 3 days in office and up to 2 days of working from home per week.
