The British Consulate General in Jerusalem has a vacancy for two (2) Drivers, job grade S1, to start as soon as possible.
The successful candidate will be part of the Transport Team, delivering on and maintaining a high standard of soft skin and AV driving and providing a safe and efficient transport service for the British Consulate – General. They will work as a valued team member and maintain a high standard of customer service, complying with all necessary administration obligations, strict punctuality requirements and essential compliance with policy and procedures as required, to always ensure the safety of passengers and the efficient successful running of the transport department.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Drive and implement routine transport programmes and VIP transport plans safely and punctually;
- Work collaboratively and successfully with co-drivers, the transport manager and colleagues in fulfilling necessary responsibilities within the department and across the broader mission;
- Carryout daily vehicle checks of tyres, brakes, engine oil and battery and the cleanliness of the vehicle.
- Maintain official vehicles in a safe and roadworthy condition as per FCDO policy and the Ministry of Transport Regulations.
- Comply with local traffic legislation including respecting speed rules and traffic regulations.
- Comply with all road traffic regulations as far as they relate to mobile phone usage and the use of hands free kit while driving.
- Ensure the integrity and upkeep of the vehicle journey record sheets.
- Ensure that vehicles are fuelled and tidy at all times
- Support the transport manager as necessary in ensuring value for money spend on all transport costs associated with the fleet vehicles
- Keep up to date with and institute all FCDO transport policy and related policies;
- Cultivate relationships and engage where necessary with respective personnel at the Jerusalem transport department on behalf of the corporate services department and/or UK Diplomats to help facilitate bureaucratic processes;
- Engage in active participation in learning and development opportunities for continued personal and professional development;
- Conduct additional duties as required from time to time in support of the objectives of the Corporate Services Department and the Consulate as a whole.
- Engage in BCGJ corporate committees on a voluntary basis to help achieve corporate objectives and build engagement and networking across post teams.
The above list is not exhaustive, and the jobholder will be required to be flexible and take on other ad hoc tasks as required, including participating in the Consulate’s emergency planning and any other response to a crisis affecting UK Citizens.

- Valid Israeli Driving Licence C1 class.
- 2 years excellent experience in driving Armoured Vehicles and soft skin vehicles.
- Good IT skills and knowledge of MS Office.
- Excellent Skills on Waze and other online road maps applications.
- Excellent first aid skills, basic mechanic skills, ability to change a tyre.
- Customer service skills.
- Proficient in reading, writing and speaking Hebrew and Arabic.
- Good in reading, writing and speaking English.

Eligibility:
If you are selected for this position, the Consulate General will be able to employ you as long as you:
- Receive the appropriate level of standard security clearance; and
- Currently hold a valid local work permit and Jerusalem ID.
Working hours:
This job is not suitable for flexible working patterns and is subject to shift patterns as operationally required. This position is for a full-time employment, on a permanent contract subject to a 6-month probationary period. Working hours are 38 hours per week. The shift working week is
- Monday – Thursday – 08:00 – 16:00 or 10:00 -18:00 or 12:00 – 20:00
- Friday 08:00 – 14:00, or 10:00 – 16:00 or 12:00 – 18:00
The Consulate General actively promotes learning and development including through a dedicated learning and development committee. All staff have the opportunity to develop their own personal development plan and receive feedback and support from their line manager. Staff have access to activities organised by the learning and development committee and to a range of online learning opportunities through the FCDO’s International Academy.
Some mandatory and essential training are required at the start of the role (security, introduction to our IT systems etc). This induction training must be completed during the probation period The Consulate runs regular workshops and teach-ins from experts on different topics related to the OPTs, open to all staff.
The jobholder will be offered other learning and development opportunities in line with the requirements of the role including Armoured Vehicle Defensive Driving training on successful completion of the probationary period.

Process:
The recruitment process, including security clearance, is expected to take around two-three months. The security clearance process includes checks available in country and with UK, dependant on the security level required for the role and the candidates’ profile and UK footprint. You may experience some delay in the progress of this recruitment campaign, and we are working hard to minimise any disruption.
Appointable candidates who were unsuccessful at interview may be placed on a ‘reserve list’. If during the reserve period of six (6) months the same or a largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second or subsequent candidate.
