The British Consulate General in Jerusalem has a vacancy for two (2) Security Officers, job grade S1 to start as soon as possible.

This role is open to both male and female candidates. This position is full-time, based on 40 hours per week and will involve working on shifts.

The successful candidate will work as part of an established and capable Security team to ensure the safety and security of staff and families at the British Consulate General, working in a shift rotation pattern 24/7, 365. The candidate must have strong communication skills and the ability to give clear, concise advice on a range of security topics, commensurate with the position and in line with policies and procedures.

Duties and responsibilities:

Working as part of a team on a shift roster, the candidate will be responsible for carrying out a range of duties, as directed by the Regional Overseas Security Manager, Post Security Manager and Shift Supervisors, including but not limited to:

  • Conducting security checks, including physical searches of personnel and vehicles, monitoring CCTV, operating a UHF radio network, and patrolling on foot and by vehicle.
  • Assisting on visits and events, including field deployments.
  • Dealing with members of the public in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Reacting to incidents and issues in a calm, disciplined manner as part of a team.
  • Undertaking learning and development to develop skills, as well as understanding policy and procedures to be implemented in the day to day role.
  • Engage corporate objectives on a volunteer basis through a corporate committee.

The above list is not exhaustive, and the jobholder will be required to be flexible and take on other ad hoc tasks as required, including participating in the Consulate’s emergency planning and any other response to a crisis affecting UK Citizens.

  • Excellent communication skills in English and Arabic both written and spoken.
  • At least two (2) years of security experience.
  • Knowledge of physical security barriers, policy, and procedures.
  • Local geographical knowledge within Jerusalem and the West Bank.
  • Must hold an Israeli driving license.
  • Must be able to work and act without close supervision and react calmly to situations that may arise.
  • Computer literate especially in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

  • Written and spoken Hebrew would be an advantage but is not essential.

Eligibility:

If you are selected for this position, the Consulate General will be able to employ you as long as you:

  • Receive the appropriate level of standard security clearance; and
  • Currently hold a valid local work permit and Jerusalem ID; and
  • A B2 Israeli driving license.

Working hours:

The Consulate General aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including a non-negotiable salary of ILS 6,815 per month plus a disturbance allowance of ILS 1,363 and transport allowance of ILS 497 and social benefits. No accommodation nor relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.

This position is for a full-time employment, on a permanent contract basis subject to a 6-month probation period. The security team works 365 days a year and covers 24 hours per day. Working hours are at 40 hours per week, shift based 8 hours, 5 days a week including weekends and public holidays.

The Consulate General actively promotes learning and development including through a dedicated learning and development committee. All staff have the opportunity to develop their own personal development plan and receive feedback and support from their line manager. Staff have access to activities organised by the learning and development committee and to a range of online learning opportunities through the FCDO’s International Academy.

Some mandatory and essential training are required at the start of the role (security, introduction to our IT systems etc). The Consulate runs regular workshops and teach-ins from experts on different topics related to the OPTs, open to all staff.

Process:

The recruitment process, including security clearance, is expected to take around two-three months. The security clearance process includes checks available in country and with UK, dependant on the security level required for the role and the candidates profile and UK footprint. You may experience some delay in the progress of this recruitment campaign, and we are working hard to minimise any disruption.

Appointable candidates who were unsuccessful at interview may be placed on a ‘reserve list’. If during the reserve period of six (6) months the same or a largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second or subsequent candidate.

The start date mentioned in the advert is tentative start date and the successful candidate will be required to undergo security-vetting procedures. Any offer of employment will be subject to the candidate achieving suitable clearances and reference checks.
