Main purpose of job
The British Embassy is seeking an Estates Maintenance Assistant to undertake general basic repairs and maintenance across the estate. For more complex tasks, the incumbent would support the Estates Manager in identifying and assessing work requiring outside contractors and support the scheduling and supervision of planned and reactive maintenance across the Embassy’s properties. The role would also include some basic record keeping and associated administrative tasks.

Roles and responsibilities
Maintenance Coordination & Property Support – 80%
- Complete required basic repair and maintenance tasks for the British Residence and other Embassy properties within agreed time frames and to agreed standards.
- In support of the Estates Manager, carry out basic visual checks and property walkthroughs to identify maintenance or safety issues.
- Assist with arranging contractor visits, access, and follow-ups.
- Provide basic on-site support during maintenance activities and report any delays, quality issues, or concerns to the Estates Manager.
Administration, Documentation – Health & Safety and Fire Safety Support – 20%
- Support Estates Manager in routine health & safety and fire safety checks.
- Maintain basic records and logs for inspections, tests, and checks.
- Assist with record keeping related to maintenance, services, and properties.
- Support Estates Manager in keeping property files, service records, and inventories up to date.
- Assist during inspections, audits, and official visits.
- Undertake other reasonable duties aligned with the role.

- Basic building maintenance and repair skills.
- Good communication: able to coordinate with contractors, residents, internal teams, and escalate appropriately.
- Attention to detail, especially for records, logs, and documentation.
- Basic IT skills (email, spreadsheets, document filing).
- Reliable, flexible, and able to work as part of a team.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Legal status to live and work in the Dominican Republic in your own right, from time of Application.
- At least intermediate level of written and spoken English required.

Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, e.g. some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.
Appointable candidates who were unsuccessful may be placed on a ‘reserve list. If during the reserve period of 12 months the same or largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second of subsequent candidate.
