Main Purpose of Job:

Reporting to the Corporate Services and Security Officer, the successful applicant will be one of two drivers responsible for driving the High Commissioner and Deputy High Commissioner. In addition, they will be required to drive other High Commission staff to appointments, the transportation of official visitors and assisting the Corporate Services team with general office administration and ad hoc procurement. The applicant will also be responsible for overseeing the maintenance of the High Commission vehicle fleet. 

The High Commission operate a driver duty roster for out of hours work in the evening and at weekends for which fixed rate overtime is paid.  

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Daily driving
  • Maintain and clean vehicle(s)
  • Arrange refuelling, servicing, registration and maintain accurate records and documentation
  • Act as duty driver for out of hours work every other week
  • Work closely with the vehicle security escort team
  • Liaise with the security provider regarding security and traffic updates
  • Plan routes and liaise with the Corporate Service and Security Officer when travelling in and of the city, in particular when travelling to security “hot spot” areas
  • As part of the Corporate Services Team, work proactively to support the Corporate Services and Security Manager in a variety of administrative tasks

  • Valid driver’s license
  • At least two years professional driving experience
  • Fluent in English and Tok Pisin

  • Experience in office administration
  • Ability to undertake duties with minimal supervision

This role is advertised as a 2-year fixed term contract, with possibility of renewal.

Learning and development opportunities: The successful applicant will have an opportunity to attend defensive driver training. 

The standard working week is 39 hours inclusive of a 30-minute lunch break from Monday to Thursday.  However, the nature of the role requires the successful applicant to work beyond these hours for which they are compensated by the fixed rate overtime (PGK 400).

The successful application will be required to live on site during the duty week. 

The successful candidate must have or be able to obtain Work Authorisation for Papua New Guinea and valid Police Clearance Certificate. Any offer of employment will be subject to the candidate achieving suitable clearances.
