Main purpose of job:
The British Embassy in Santo Domingo is seeking an enthusiastic and fast-learning intern to provide support to the Political and Communications team across the range of their work. This will include a wide range of work, from helping research and draft briefings on local and international political issues, helping to generate comms material, to providing support for events. This is a great opportunity for somebody early in their career to get experience working in an international environment and an insight into the work of an Embassy.

Roles and responsibilities:
The Political intern will work across the work of the Political and Communications team, helping with a wide variety of tasks and projects and getting experience of the range of work that we carry out in the Embassy.

This is a varied role, with the opportunity to get experience in an unusually broad mix of areas of administrative support. An excellent suite of online training is available and the job-holder is expected to commit to personal learning and development as part of the role.

Applicants must have the legal status to live and work in the Dominican Republic at the time of application.
The position requires pre-existing legal status to live and work in the Dominican Republic and will be subject to satisfactory reference checks and successful receipt of security clearances.
Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, e.g. some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.
Appointable candidates who were unsuccessful may be placed on a ‘reserve list. If during the reserve period of 12 months the same or largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second of subsequent candidate.
