Main purpose of job:
The Communications and Public Diplomacy team is looking for an experienced media professional to lead our press engagement in the British Embassy in Brasilia. This is an exciting opportunity to work as His Majesty Ambassador’s press officer, supporting her press engagement on a number of priority topics, especially trade, climate, security, as well as expanding and solidifying her social media presence through soft power. The successful candidate will work on an exciting, dynamic and fast-paced environment, being challenged to plan and deliver ambitious and creative communications strategies to protect, project and promote the UK in Brazil, aligned with the overall objectives of the British Mission in Brazil. The ideal candidate has deep journalistic experience, with a special interest in politics and diplomacy, a great eye to spotting a good story, a solid network of contacts in the press across the country and a passion to using communications to advance our public diplomacy priorities. This position will be based at the Embassy in Brasilia and report to the Head of Communications and Public Diplomacy. |

· Proactive, self-sufficient, and results-oriented individual who is driven by an interest in the delivery of high impact, innovative and strategic communications
· At least six years of professional experience in journalism and media organisations, with a good network of press contacts in key outlets and good understanding of Brazilian media
· A university degree in journalism, media and related fields
· Excellent writing, spelling and copywriting skills in Portuguese and English
· Strong interest in international relations, politics and diplomacy
· Excellent interpersonal communication skills, management skills, good attention to detail and be a strong team-player.
· Basic video and photo editing for social media
· IT literacy, including MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook)

· Experience of working with international NGOs, government or news organisations.
· Experience with digital campaigns
· Ability to deal with a range of contacts at all levels
Understanding of UK politics, economy and government priorities
