The British Embassy in Warsaw is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. We are seeking a dynamic and customer-oriented full-time Pro Consul (Consular Officer) to join an experienced, busy consular team, providing consular assistance to British Nationals in Poland. The main function of the Pro Consul (Consular Officer) is to provide a high level of consular assistance and support to British Nationals in Poland, with special attention on the most vulnerable. The role will also require delivering documentary and notarial services. The successful candidate will be expected to fulfil these aspects of the role whilst also contributing to the Wider Consular Network objectives and whilst actively seeking opportunities to work with wider teams in the British Embassy Warsaw to support a positive work environment. Candidates should note that the different functions of the role will require the candidate to adapt to shifting priorities and operational objectives, whilst maintaining a commitment to excellent customer service. This is a full-time, fixed-term position of 5 days (37.5 hours net) per week, from Monday to Friday, for the period of 1 year with the possibility of renewal.
The gross salary for this position is PLN 8,955 gross per month.
Other benefits:
- Working hours are flexible.
- Staff are entitled to time-off-in-lieu for agreed extra hours worked.
- The annual leave entitlement is 20 or 26 days per year pro rata.
- The Embassy also enjoys a maximum of 14 Polish/UK public holidays per year.
Please note that staff members are responsible for paying any income tax required by the local law.
The successful candidate will be subject to reference checks and the satisfactory completion of a probationary period of three months.
Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Warsaw are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to Polish employment law.
Visa / Passport requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Poland and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract. Please note that it is your responsibility to ensure you meet the legal requirements to live and work in this country.
Learning & Development:
- The successful candidate will receive Consular specific training.
- The British Embassy Warsaw offers a wide range of other development opportunities, including shadowing other teams, mentoring and interactive Learning and Development sessions, as supported by the wider FCDO training offer.
Working patterns: The British Embassy Warsaw has a strong commitment to work/life balance. Standard office hours are 8.30-16.30 with flexi-hours possibility within the opening hours 08.00-18.00. Exact working hours will be agreed with your Line Manager after the recruitment process is concluded.

It is important to note that the consular role is very demanding and will entail dealing with casework in situations that may involve hospitalisation, death, detention, rape and sexual assault and prison visits. You will be required to deal face to face with highly distressed British nationals who may be in shock, grieving and in a crisis situation. Candidates should therefore have a high level of resilience to trauma.
