Main purpose of job:
In this role, you’ll provide professional and empathetic consular assistance to British nationals living in or visiting Germany—supporting them through life’s most challenging moments. From assisting vulnerable individuals to delivering modern, efficient services, your work will have a direct impact on people’s lives.
You’ll collaborate with colleagues across Germany and the wider EuroAsia region, which spans 29 countries, and contribute to prevention campaigns, crisis management, and outreach initiatives. This is a chance to build strong networks with local authorities, NGOs, and UK partners while representing British interests abroad.
Your Key Responsibilities:
- Consular Services: Issue Emergency Travel Documents, provide notarial services, and manage appointments.
- Assistance: Deliver empathetic support to British nationals in distress, liaising with UK and local authorities.
- Prevention & Outreach: Develop campaigns, organise events, and build networks to keep the British public informed.
- Crisis Management: Play a vital role in preparedness and response during emergencies.

Our Ideal Candidate shows:
- Full professional proficiency in German and English (written and spoken, minimum of C1 level for CEFR framework*);
- Customer service: previous experience in a customer facing role and ability to response to a wide range of customer needs;
- Excellent organisational and time management skills;

This is a part time (18.75 hours a week), fixed-term 12 months contract. € 26,352.- rising to a maximum of approx. € 29,601.- gross per annum after a qualifying period in addition to performance related pay (salary is not negotiable). Candidate must have pre-existing work authorisation in Germany in order to apply.
Staff recruited locally by the British Consulate General are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local German employment law.
Visa/work permit requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Germany and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.
