The British Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking to recruit a Project Manager.
The UK funds programming in Bosnia and Herzegovina which focuses on three areas.
– Conflict Prevention
– Addressing Violence against Women and Girls
– Supporting BiH cyber resilience and promoting open societies
Working as part of the British Embassy Sarajevo Programme Team, the role holder will manage and support development of projects that deliver UK policy objectives under the ‘supporting BiH cyber resilience and promoting open societies’ objective.
As a member of the programme team you will be expected to ensure project implementers deliver impactful reporting, are fully compliant with UK programme rules and that activities deliver maximum value for money.
The British Embassy programme team work closely together and support each other on tasks when needed. This role holder will be expected to do the same and they will be duly supported by the team as they take on the new role.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Manage two existing projects (covering cyber resilience and promoting open societies ) in their reporting, compliance and communication plans in accordance with the UK programme operating framework. Ensure the relevant political team member, Head of Programme and Finance manager are fully appraised of project developments, risks and achievements.
- Provide technical advice and guidance on financial, reporting and procurement procedures to Project Implementers in support of project implementation.
- Manage the preparation of project documentation and maintenance of relevant project files and provide accurate and timely reporting on projects including providing critical assessment of project results and impact within the larger BiH context.
- Support project implementers to deliver against specific and targeted policy objectives including through demonstrating their results through case studies.
- Engage and support coordination of the Embassy’s programme design process, including through collecting and summarising previous project results and impact.
- Support the Head of programmes and broader programme team to deliver an implementer workshop.
- Engage with key stakeholders in the embassy and London,
- As UK project funding is highly flexible and adaptive, the jobholder will be expected to adapt quickly and take on new areas of work as required.

- Verbal and written fluency in English and one of the BiH constituent languages (Bosnian, Croatian, Serbian), C1 level accordingly to CEFR*;
- Project and programme management experience, preferably from or with BiH public sector or international organisations;
- Experience in providing subject expertise in cyber resilience and/or promoting open societies
- Excellent problem solving skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to network and work collaboratively with others
- Ability to think creatively and take a proactive role in achieving team objectives
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Flexibility and ability to learn quickly
- Intermediate skills with MS Word and Excel

This is a full-time position of 5 working days, 41 hours per week, for a fixed term maternity cover contract expected to be concluded by the 5 May 2027, and upon successful completion of a three-month probation period.
British Embassy Sarajevo supports flexible working options that are in line with our policies and agreed with line manager.
British Embassy Sarajevo will provide opportunities for learning and development. In addition to access to the UK’s Diplomatic Academy online learning offer, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to undertake advanced driver training.
The successful candidate will be subject to professional background and security clearance and must have pre-existing work authorisation for Bosnia-Herzegovina in order to apply.
The successful candidate will be hired under the Terms and Conditions of British Embassy Sarajevo and social contributions will be paid accordingly.
The monthly salary for this position is 5,149.29 BAM gross per month. In addition, members of staff receive a meal allowance and transport allowance as per Terms & Conditions.
Staff members recruited locally by the British Embassy in Bosnia-Herzegovina are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Bosnia-Herzegovina employment law.
