Main purpose of job:
An opportunity to work as an Administrative Officer (Protocol Officer) to provide excellent support to the Protocol Section. This requires working in a challenging and demanding environment while coordinating with the host government authorities.
The Protocol Officer must be able to deliver a range of administrative and logistical activities with less supervision. Must be good in communication and have excellent organisational prioritisation and coordination skills to meet complex logistical and operational activities. Able to Implement Protocol policies and practices and provide key operational delivery to expedite imports and exports for the British High Commission (BHC).
The Protocol Officer will work within a team to ensure the coordination and delivery of various important tasks within the workplan agreed, ensuring goals are delivered in good time. The Protocol Officer must represent strong communication skills, be able to work in a team and independently. He/she must also be able to engage effectively and develop excellent working relationships with a wide range of individuals and stakeholders at all levels.
While the post will be based in Islamabad, occasional country travel may be required while facilitating Ministerial visits. Additional tasks include BHC representative when facilitating arrivals and departures of the High Commissioner and VIPs at the airport.

Roles and responsibilities that a jobholder will be expected to achieve:
- Refund of General Sales Tax (10%) – To apply cases for the refund of general sales tax and ability to communicate with Regional Tax offices for recoveries. Prepare exemptions for GST refund for goods and services where applicable.
- Import and Export of Official and Personal shipments (30%) – Prepare Import and Export Permissions before sending to the Ministry for approval. Liaise with designated freight forwarders and Customs for speedy clearance and delivery (this involves use of Government of Pakistan (GoP) online systems – PROSYS and WEBOC /PSW);
- Departure / Arrival briefings to UK based staff (5%) – Conduct departure/arrival briefings for UK based staff to help them import/export their belongings to and from Pakistan.
- Airport Facilitation (10%) – Smooth facilitation of the High Commissioner and visiting UK Government Ministers and VIPs arriving and departing from Pakistani Airports. This involves liaising with the airport authorities and airlines and ability to drive official vehicles.
- Preparation of Documentation (25%) – To prepare miscellaneous documents and cases for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other Partners across Government including:
- Airport Passes;
- Third Country visas for official visits;
- Pakistan visas and Accreditation Cards;
- Understanding movement requests and rules related to movements of diplomats; and,
- Dealing with other Diplomatic Missions;
- Alcohol and Food;
- Vehicle Registrations and Sales (20%) – To perform administrative tasks related to import, export, registration and sale / export of diplomatic vehicles and to maintain proper record of vehicles.
Supporting the Network – Provide necessary support to other parts of the UK Pakistan Network to provide them a good platform support so they can easily perform.

For BHC candidates, the Country Based Staff BHC Terms & Conditions will apply.
For other than BHC candidates the basic salary will be PKR 143,702 per month. This salary is non-negotiable.
Please note that the current salaries are being dollarized and processed in USD (using a fixed corporate exchange rate from November 2022) to provide cushion against the current external market conditions. This is a temporary measure and is subject to review at regular intervals. The payroll will revert to local currency processing once the external market conditions are normalised.
BHC offers a great benefits package that comprises of Annual Domiciliary cover and Medical Insurance Scheme which includes PKR 1,500,000 floater coverage per family for self, one spouse/long term partner and children under the age of 19 or under 23, if in full-time education and not gainfully employed. The Annual Domiciliary cover for day-to-day medical payments is upto PKR 200,000 per family (basis actual bills submission).
Additionally, The British High Commission contributes to a retirement provision in the form of a mandatory provident fund.
