As part of a small regional Crime, Security and Justice team led by the Caribbean Regional SOCnet Coordinator and reporting to the Regional Security Policy Lead, you will support programming, diplomatic engagement and coordination that promotes UK Serious and Organised Crime (SOC) objectives in the Caribbean.
Roles and responsibilities:
Assist in the scoping, design and delivery of projects and activities that deliver against UK SOC objectives. Amongst other things, this will require you to:
- Develop a good understanding of the UK’s funding system, approach to security issues, priorities and evidence base on what works;
- Work closely with colleagues, and contacts external to the UK system, to understand local and regional needs, preferences and opportunities for collaboration;
- Identify relevant funding streams and support the development of bids into these;
- Work with and manage implementing partners and host government stakeholders and partners;
- Monitor implementation of agreed activities;
- Lead on financial management and procurement processes of agreed activities;
- Manage allocated funds, with responsibility for financial and performance reporting;
- Ensure that the risks and benefits of HMG activities are properly managed, and that HMG can adapt to local political circumstances if needed through development of contingency plans;
- Report on progress, finances, and risks.
You will also be required to support:
- Diplomatic engagement relating to SOC;
• Efforts to coordinate SOC related meetings and activities across different government departments and agencies. Sometimes this work will also extend to coordinating with other like-minded international partners and donors;
• The deepening of our understanding on particular SOC issues, including through the commissioning of research and analysis; and
• Political reporting that is relevant to SOC. - The role has a regional focus, but you will be expected to support some bilateral work in Trinidad and Tobago (and potentially other countries) as part of this. Some travel, mainly within the Caribbean region, may be required.
The role is initially until the end of the UK’s financial year in 2024/25 but may be extended further subject to funding.

Essential on arrival:
- Must have the legal status to live and work in Trinidad and Tobago
- Experience of working in an international context
- Some knowledge of regional security challenges and organised crime threats
- At least 1 year of experience of programme or project management including design, monitoring and evaluation
- Clear, concise and convincing written drafting skills
- Excellent networking skills.
- Basic computing skills, including ability to use MS Office applications
- Good team working skills and a willingness to make a wider contribution to the team and the High Commission

Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, eg some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.

Working patterns:
This is a full-time position which includes 39 hours per week. Working hours are 7:30 – 16:00 Monday through Thursday and 7:30 – 12:30 on Friday. We are willing to consider some adjustments to working hours and some working from home.
