The British Embassy in Athens is part of a world-wide network, representing a wide range of British interests overseas from political, through Economic, consular and Law Enforcement. The Embassy is now looking for a Residence and Events Manager, to work within the Corporate Services Team at the British Embassy in Athens.
Main purpose of job:
The Residence and Events Manager is working closely with the Ambassador and the Ambassador’s spouse/family and is part of the Corporate Services team, also supporting the Ambassador’s Private Office. The Residence and Events Manager is responsible for the seamless management of HMA’s Residence, including overseeing all daily operations, coordinating staff, and ensuring the highest level of service and hospitality. This role also encompasses the planning, organizing, and execution of various corporate and social events, ensuring they meet the highest standards and exceed expectations.
Roles and responsibilities:
As Residence and Events Manager, you will:
- Lead Residence Operations: Ensure the smooth running of the Ambassador’s Residence, maintaining the highest standards of service and presentation.
- Deliver Exceptional Events: Plan and execute official functions and social events, from intimate dinners to large-scale receptions, showcasing British culture and values.
- Manage People and Budgets: Oversee a dedicated team and manage budgets to deliver value for money without compromising quality.
- Support the Ambassador’s Office: Act as Social Secretary and provide occasional Private Office support.
- Other duties commensurate with the grade.

Our ideal candidate shows:
- fluency at C1 level in Greek and English according to the CEFR Framework*;
- Experience in running and working in hotel or restaurant setting, or in event management with a commitment to delivering excellence through a strong customer focus;
- Financial management; experience of managing budgets and procurement;

This is a full-time, fixed – term contract, 5 working days, 37.5 hours per week. The working pattern provides some flexibility as per flexible working policy of Mission.
The role requires work outside normal working hours (incl weekends) to support the Residence operations as well as the management of afternoon / evening events. Any work beyond the regular working hours will be compensated in line with the provisions of local labour law.
The British Embassy offers a competitive remuneration package, 24 days annual leave entitlement (given pro-rata to staff on fixed-term contracts and/or staff working part-time), a training package and flexible working opportunities. Monthly salary for this position is EUR € € 2,875.91 gross. An individual personal development plan will be agreed with the successful candidate.
The successful candidate will be welcomed into the wider team in the British Embassy in Athens and will be encouraged to play a part in the corporate life of the Embassy.
