Ensure the smooth and professional day-to-day running of the Residence (staff, budget, events). The Residence Manager will plan, budget for, organise, coordinate, deliver and review the British High Commissioner’s business hospitality and official entertainment. They will lead a team of Residence staff to ensure the Residence is well run and maintained in support of such work. Additionally, the Events and Residence Manager will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to deliver dynamic frontline corporate events and consistent service excellence.
Roles and responsibilities
- Manage the day to day functioning of the Residence to a high standard of efficiency and professionalism, on a level a close as is possible to that found in the UK as is feasible in Cameroon
- Plan and manage the High Commissioner’s and wider team’s programme of hospitality at the residence.
- Organize and co-ordinate all aspects of the High Commissioner’s and wider BHC’s hosted events to a high level of professionalism, creativity and value for money.
- Hire temporary staff where necessary.
- Recommend menus, plan the setup of events, staffing, and seating plan. You will be expected to be present for at least part of most events to welcome guests and manage staff.
- Work closely with organizations, companies and any other associations, which occasionally use the Residence as a venue for functions, generating revenue for the Mission where appropriate.
- Liaise with BHC Corporate Services Team over Residence needs for general maintenance and procurement of necessary furniture and equipment.
- Maintain accurate records of Residence activity and determine cost per visitor and event, to determine value for money
- Maintain an inventory of Residence assets such as wine, beer, soft drinks; food stocks; residence property including silverware; government art and furnishings.
- Help prepare and host incoming official guests staying overnight at the Residence
- Request repairs to the Residence and suggest improvements and replacement of equipment when needed.
- The working hours will be flexible but will require some work in the evenings when there are functions, and occasional (perhaps once or twice a year) work at weekends. You will be eligible to apply for time off in lieu and, on occasion, overtime, in advance through your LM or the DHC.
- Higher education diploma in a social science or related fields
- IT competence (Including all Microsoft Office Word and Excel).
- At least 3 years’ experience in the hospitality industry.
- Ability to lead and manage a team.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills (including managing senior stakeholders).
- Experience managing budgets and inventories.
- Meticulous attention-to-detail and organisation skills.
- Experience planning events.
- Ability to carry out administrative tasks.
- An excellent command of written and spoken English.
- Proficient in French and English

- Food Hygiene Certification
- Experience in managing budgets and organising events;
- Experience working in a diplomatic setting or international organisation;
